Can't say much about it. It is a consumer-grade lens, so that is what you'll get - consumer-grade quality. But better than my FA J 28-80; that's for sure!

It's good for starters, but I'd go hunting for a better one fast. You'll outgrow it in no time.

No, no absolutely not. This lens is crap. Avoid it. Don't buy it. It's not worth the cardboard box it came in.

It's pretty awful both in performance and build quality. And not a very convenient range, taking into account the 1.6 crop factor. It was the first secondhand Pentax lens I ever bought. And the worst.

Certainly not worth that kind of money.

what exactly makes this lens so bad? I have never heard anything out right bad about any F series lens.

There are better choices...

This lens is soft wide open and just lacks overall sharpness. Unfortunately this is one of the forgettable zoom lenses that Pentax once made and thankfully discontinued. Produced as the kit lens when Pentax made crappy AF film cameras. Gave mine away as a free gift.

séamuis, just because the lens is a F series doesn't automatically mean it is good. Pentax made quite a number of mediocre zoom lenses. This is one of them.

well thanks for all your input. I rang him up just then and told what all you guys said. He said to me then $55, so might as well get it.. At least i get a litttle more zoom then my pantax 18mm-50mm one.

What about this one..he has another 1 for sale..

"Tamron AF-70-300mm F/4-5.6 LD-Macro"

I have no idea the price would sit at....

How would you rate this lense. Good and the bad..and where the price should be at..

He said it would fit on my k100d but then I do not know. Will it fit? thanks Pentaxians.

Ive never used any lens other than pentax so I cant comment on the tamron, it will fit just fine if its a K mount lens.

Cool...thanks alot gentleman. So as a novice questions for you Pentaxians. For a k100d (my model) what i need to look for is a K mount. Is there any other mounts i can fit? or thats the only one.

Cheers

all pentax cameras after 1975 are K mount so any K mount lens will work (with limitations on some) your camera only accepts K mount lenses. you can also use older screw mount pentax (Takumar) lenses with a K-m42 adapterl. all I can say is avoid any lens that is labed PK/R the R stands for Ricoch and has a pin on the lens mount that will get the lens stuck on your camera. you can check out this page for more info on Pentax and the K mount.
