I know as much about the *60-250 as you do. All I know is that on Pentax's lens roadmap, it has a targeted availability date of Summer 2008.

While the 55-300 is a keeper for me, I know some of you are anxious for more info on the *60-250.

Heather, those are actually very good shots for quick snapshots - very sharp, nice contrast. Sometimes a quick snapshot is a good test - if they look good, anything will look good with a lens!

Well Heather, I got mine a bit ago (Gary Camera, $339) and decided to match my Croton (petra) with yours.........yours is bigger! The Cardinal was snapped thru a double-pane window. The DA 55-300 is very impressive. Physically it is almost identical to my Tamron 18-250 (my only other zoom), but I think IQ may be slightly better. It does not, unsurprisingly, equal the DA* long primes but is plenty good for walkin' around.........

I'm another recent 55-300 owner (got one yesterday) I have managed a few shots so far - I find pretty much the same as the OP, the lens does exhibit some CA in high contrast situations but certainly not as bad as the Tamron 70-300 DI LD I previously owned..

To me it is also noticably sharper than the Sigma 70-300 APO (which I also recently owned), it's pretty good wide open too although there is corner fall-off, this clears nicely around F11

I also like the colour rendition & as someone else mentioned it does seem to produce nice BOKEH...

Unless something unexpected shows up in my future test shots this looks like a definite keeper for me, having sold both the Tamron & Sigma variants
