New Samyang 50mm

The Korean has announced a new 50mm f1.4-22 lens with 8 apperture blades, minimal focusing distance of 0.45 m availiable in K mount

Samyang 50mm f/1.4 AS UMC
http://www.samyang-europe.com/dslr-lenses/samyang-50mm-f-1-4-as-umc

... it seems to have the same specifications than the A50 f1.4. Hope to read a comparison/review.

PS: I have no link with neither with the company nor any distributor.

And it only weighs twice as much as a Pentax A 50/1.4...

And it's a centimeter longer...

And it uses a 77mm filter...

And it costs 5 times more than a used A 50/1.4...in fact, it costs $200 more than a new FA 50/1.4.

If it had been a F/1.2 I think I could have overlooked the size.

I'll be curious as to the price.
It weighs just as much as my Rokinon (Samyang) 85 mm f/1.4. Its a heavy beast.

I would almost say that Pentax should partner up with Samyang, but Pentax's lens tend to be small/light, where Samyang's lenses are built like a tank.

The cine version is listed at $549.

Well... the 85mm f/1.4 was affordable, cheap even compared to most. At +$500 for a 50mm, I don't think so. I'm not doing (much) video. Personally... at f/1.4, I'd like to have some AF.

Yeah, I was hoping it would be f1.2. Then the lack of AF and relatively high price could be overlooked. This is a classical 50mm f1.4, with the usual minimum focus distance and such, but its bigger and costs quite a bit more. It better have some stunning image quality, but I doubt it will compete against the other 50mm lenses, the Sigma and camera-brand lenses. If the Samyang were f1.2 or $200, then it would be interesting. I'd rather get a light DA 50mm 1.8 or one of the compact 50mm f1.4 lenses. Even the old Sigma seems to be a more rational choice.

Well to be fair, Pentax lenses are built like tanks too. Just not the size of one.

From my limited experience with Samyang, I think Pentax lenses are generally built to higher precision standards, but they are compact designs and much lighter. Samyang lenses seem to be tough, but the lens weight creates this illusion. I've heard about more QC problems with Samyang lenses than Pentax lenses. Though, maybe the QC and tolerances have been improved, with lens prices like that.

I'm very satisfied with my Cosina 55 1.2. Also "built like a tank", but not ridiculously huge.

If it follows the Samyang tradition it should have minimal coma and therefore bee nice for astro stuff.

I see a local store already has the cine version of this lens for preorder. Anyone thinking of buying the Samyang 50mm? I would like to see some reviews, comparing it to other 50mm lenses, most notably the Sigma
