advices on putting DA35 through its paces?

just got my DA35 - does anybody have advice on what i should check or try to make sure that i have a good sample? so far the focus ring is a little stiffer than i'd expected, and maybe just slightly unevenly damped, but otherwise it seems to be in pretty solid optical and mechanical shape - still, i've been playing with it maybe twenty minutes, so this first impression shouldn't count for much.

You could try the old "brick wall shot" for starters... (using a tripod).

Good question. Mine is supposed to arrive at my parents' in Tennessee tomorrow, where it will be waiting for me when I get there on Saturday. The 49mm UV & CPL filters are already in the camera bag.

Happy, happy, joy, joy!

I don't know if there are any specific problems, but Pentax quality control has, I hear, not been at its best lately, and even if it were, it'd makes sense to test out a new purchase as soon as possible to spot any issues quickly and address them. I also didn't know if there were any special issues I hadn't heard about.

thanks.

i tried the quick-and-dirty handheld version of a "laptop display shot", which, with a grid of pixels and subpixels, is prettymuch the indoor macro equivalent of a brick wall shot.
