Whats a good lens to get with tax rebate?

I got my 600.00 tax rebate today. I thinking of using it to buy a new lens. I have 18-55 kit lens that came with k10d and a 50mm 1.4. I thinking about getting the 18mm to 250mm zoom or a wide angle lens.

All good lenses/ideas. What do you want to take photos of?

Since you don't have anything beyond 55mm, I would suggest that you look at getting a telezoom to go with the 18-55. Depending on how much you want to spend, I would make 2 suggestions:
DA50-200--can be had for $150 or less used in the marketplace
DA55-300--just released, can be had for $349.95 from Adorama, including shipping

For wide angle, I would suggest the Sigma 10-20/4-5.6; lots of people around here love it. New, it runs about $499.

If you could add $50 or so to your rebate, you could concievably get both a used 50-200 and the 10-20, which would have you covered from 10-200 in your entire kit.

Hope that helps!

I would seriously consider biting the bullet, adding $140 to your rebate and getting the DA* 50-135. Maybe the best overall lens Pentax sells right now.

I'd have to agree with the Sherman on that, that lens is exceptional.

another vote for 50-135mm or wait 2-3 months for tamron/sigma 70-200mm f2.8 or possibly pentax 60-250mm

If it were me I'd add a bit on to that $600 and get the 50-135. It will probably be my next major lens purchase.

Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 looks really good, should wait for it. Put the $ into a saving account or invert first

See samples of that lens

I'm almost in the same situation -- I think I'm going to wait to see how the DA* 60-250mm f/4turns out, as far as pricing and quality of images when wide open. I really wish Pentax would just release the lens already!

Assume you go that route, you'd have everything from 18-250mm covered, and all you're lacking is super wide angle or super tele (which an extender will solve).
