It's not super wide (especially on aps-c), but I really love my FA 28-105. I bought it as a cheap throwaway midrange zoom for on the kayak, and the thing surprised me quite a bit to become one of my favorite lenses, even if it's not completely razor sharp. The AF is rather quick on the K-3II (hunts a little on k-50 but not that bad). Now if only my skills were good enough to bring out the true wonder of this lens... Unlike the FA 80-320 that we spoke about earlier, the 28-105 does rather well in most lighting conditions, and the bayonet hood stows conveniently on the lens vs. a screw in option.

So I guess I did it wrong...

I bought the well-regarded Tokina 20-35mm (the slow one, 1st version), and it halos like nothing else going.
Almost as if the lens is fogged whenever there is bright light in the photo...

I get things like this (which are worse at high ISOs, but this isn't a high ISO...)

And when I try and remove the haze, it just turns the photo into a mess...

But when the lighting behaves, generally when I use flash inside, it is terrific.

Both of these are straight out of the camera apart from the resizing between Photos and here...

I don't see anything when I look in the lens in terms of haze, fog, or fungus.
I read something about "dark fog", lubricating oils that migrate to the interior elements but don't show in the flashlight test. I'm not sure if that's a thing or not...
Anyway, it makes the lens nearly unusable.

Any ideas? I really want to like this lens...

It also shows up in Photos as a Tokina 19-35 unless I'm shooting at 35mm, when it thinks it might also be a SMC-F 35-70 f3.5-4.5

Well, that first image presents a real challenge for any camera's metering, with the extreme bright and dark areas. What type of metering are you using? I have a Vivitar 19/3.8 (Cosina) that behaves a bit like that. It seems to overexpose and flare quite easily. First thing I did was discard the "wide-angle" metal hood I was using, and replace it with a "standard" metal hood. The new hood is a bit deeper and seems to work better on aps-c. The other thing I do is adjust the camera for shooting on bright sunny days by dialing in -1 EV. Really made a difference in my enjoyment of this lens. Shooting in RAW makes corrections in PP a lot easier, too.
Taken on a partly cloudy day last week:

This Club hasn't really caught on... I would think now with the K-1, that these cheap film era wide angle lenses would be getting back into rotation? The K-1 buyers are probably buying the pricey 15-30s then

Here's the Tokina 19-35 on the APS-C K10D...
