I have some SMC Takumars on the way, and am wondering what UV filters I should buy. I tend to like using Hoya Super HMC UV (0) filters on my lenses, but these are not made in the 49mm size. Thus, is the Hoya HMC good enough? The Super HMC is supposed to transmit 99.7% of light, while the HMC is quoted as 97%.

I know that B+W filters have a great reputation, and they would seem to be the best, but when buying multiple filters the cost for B+W can add up. I also know that I can go with a 52mm Super HMC (using a step-up ring), but then I cannot use 49mm Pentax caps or hoods. Any advice?

I found out this afternoon that all Taks use different sized filters.

Your best bet is probably using a larger filter and set up/down rings (or whatever they are called).

I am going to have to have a look into it when i receive all of my Taks ... and find out which is the largest and then go from there.

zx-m, the THK website shows Hoya S-HMC UV (0) filters are available in 49mm size: THK Photo Products, Inc.

So, you should be able to order up what you want and need, no problemo!
