Using a reverse ring for macro

So I get this reversing ring for my K20D and 18-55mm DA WR, and I pop it on and start to mess around and it isn't long before I realize there is a problem. I have watched a few Youtube videos on the subject of setting your aperture on AF lenses before taking them off of the camera, and that involves holding down the DOF preview button while simultaneously removing the lens. This apparently works fine if you are a Canon user, but the more mechanical nature of the Pentax lenses means that there is nothing holding the lever in place one you remove the lens. Does anyone know of a work around for this?

I have a step up ring coming so I can use the reversal ring with my manual lenses, but that hardly helps me at the moment.

Take the aperture ring off the "A" setting. You should then be able to have the lens set where you want with the standard numbers.
My F 35-70 works great that way.

Your lens doesn't have the aperture ring. This technique is not working with DA lenses - you need to get one of those older K, M, A, or F, FA lenses .

Hi almo,

With the reversed 18-55, you could try to fix the little lever that mechanically opens and shuts the aperture by jamming it with a small piece of rubber, but frankly, it's a pain.
If you have an "old fashioned" lens with an aperture dial, reverse the lens with the adapter then and select the aperture via the dial. Should be far more convenient.

Cheers from Berlin,

jephi

That only works if your lens have an aperture ring, which the 18-55 doesn't has.

You can move with your finger the aperture lever, just be carefull not to touch the rear element.

The 18-55 WR does not have an aperture ring, that's the problem...

The DA lenses don't have an aperture ring so the above suggestion won't work for the 18-55. You can wedge the aperture lever with something handy, toothpicks or shrink tubing or cardboard. A manual lens has an aperture ring, which can be set to hold any aperture, so that would be my choice.

Focal lengths like 28mm have huge magnification when reversed, like 3:1. If you have a spare rear lens cap, you can modify it by removing the back and adding cardboard to make a lens hood.

I remember seeing pictures in the forums where people were holding the lever with a piece of plastic. That should work

I have a 50mm manual lens, so I will just have to wait for the step up ring I ordered.
