Sigma ex dc 17-50 f 2,8 os hsm

Hey guys,

i have the option to buy the legacy 17-50 /2.8 with stabilizer for quite cheap of ebay. however the seller states that the autofocus is very prone to hunting since recently. can this be an indicator for a failing autofocus? and also i was wondering whether the legacy and current zoom is any different besides the stabilizer?

Unless it is due to decentering of a lens element, the reason for hunting is mostly with the camera.

well he listed the lens as defective with the reason being that the lens hunts from time to time and can temporarily be resolved via turning the camera off and on again. to me this sounds very much like the camera's fault

I returned a brand new copy of this lens, as the autofocus behavior was TERRIBLE. Lots of shots were very out of focus at various focal lengths. I could not figure out the problem, and sent the lens back. I suspect the OS version has some AF problems. I tested on K-5 and K-01.
