I doubt you could find those lenses in the average pawn shop but Russia is a country of many surprises...

Once I was in Russia and I saw a MIRV Warhead on clearance in a street shop window. You could buy the individual multiple-reentry warheads separately, but you got a good deal if you bought the whole cluster. They took Rubles, Dollars, Euros or Levis jeans as payment.

(a play on the post-cold-war horror tales told to small children in the US)

I have recently discovered some vintage Russian lens catalogs (they are available online on my website).

Okami, if you go to St. Petersburg, please bring me back the following lenses:
- the 20mm F/0.5 mirror lens ref. 48-036, page 269 of the GOI lens catalog;
- the Helios-67 200mm F/1.5 ref. 58-12, page 398 of the GOI lens catalog;
- the Dinar-2 300mm F/1.8 ref.58-12, page 399 of the GOI lens catalog;
- the Uran-12 500mm F/2.5 ref.43.05, page 214 of the GOI lens catalog;
- the Mars-5 1000mm F/4.0 ref.54-07, page 348 of the GOI lens catalog;
- the Mars-7 1800mm F/6.0 ref.58-11, page 396 of the GOI lens catalog.

If you have some more room in your suitcase, there are also a few lenses that I'd like to have from the other two catalogs .

Cheers!

Abbazz

And I doubt any of these lenses would be available in M42 mount anyway...

Cheers!

I have this lens, and it is an interesting lens although heavy. It has a nice bokeh I think because of the 16 aperture blades
It works better with a hood on a sunny day.

I didnt see this one mentioned, Helios-40 (85mm f1.5) There are a couple versions of it, they are all good in my opinion. Its huge, and heavy.

the 2 you mentioned and the mir lenses are the ones i have seen discussed extensively. thats a very generous offer you just made and the lba tickle is starting. i'm tempted to put in a request for a jupiter9 85mm and a m-42 to k-mount adapter. are you aware of this site:

MC JUPITER-9 2/85 Lens lens for Pentax
The Pentax adapter listed says :focus range:limited
It might be a flanged adapter that keeps the focus from reaching infinity.

TAIR-3 PhS 4/300 PHOTOSNIPER FS-12 Russian Lens ZENIT - eBay (item 380027514382 end time May-20-08 13:14:04 PDT)

Looks really cool. How much did you pay for your photosniper?

That is way too expensive. I payed $53AUD for mine. It also came with a helios-44M-4 58mm f/2 lens (Zeiss Biotar copy).

I am wondering ..........

I will be in Russia in 30 days ......if I were to look for lenses , taking a old K1000 film camera would be necessary to make sure they they fit , do you think.
I am not sure I will have time or maybe not worth the trouble .

depends where in russia

and depends if you know ahead of time where to go.

there are MANY camera shops in Moscow, the trick is knowing where they are.
