Just being as a keen scholar on Confuscious study, I would have to add a comment regarding him.
His good tools referred to principles of "how to be a good person" for the better good of a community where individualism is less favoured (the beginning of utopia concept). Confuscious was also known to be "unemployed" for most of his life time despite his reputation among so many warlords - Confuscious talked about helping the majority of people all his life but ended up contributing little to the people at his time (controversially affecting the consequent history of China).
The student - Yen Huei who he considered to be the best among his pupils turned out to be dead due to starvation in an alley at the age of 33 year old. This was an irony that Confusciosu also said "One with utmost integrity and skills for the good of people would not benefit a society if one cannot contribute".
Both of them had the "tools" but failed to contribute to the people in their time.
