Yeah I love that bokeh it gives the lens a personality that many new perfected lenses miss.
I have owned and sold the fine Sony zeiss Fe 55 and this lens is more fun.......and I am an hobbyist and want to have fun .

This is always subjective - there are many factors why a particular copy of lens performs better and statement like this has very little meaning when we start digging some details. I myself went trough many 50mm lenses , and even now I still am thinking of 50 1:1.2 version, I know that sometime lens underperforms because it has some flaws, has too much dust inside, has haziness which is hard to see, has been disasembled during its life and hasn't been put together correctly, and there is also sample variation.. so your case of having good experience with olympus and bad with pentax 50mm f1.7 can be a mixture of many factors and so the conclusion should take all that into account I think.

Here is a sample from my copy of the lens... It has the best bokeh I've seen, although this is a subjective opinion! From f/5,6 and smaller it is razor sharp like all the old manual well built 50mm Pentax lenses.
I agree - this looks to be a very fine lens indeed !

This lens is so good, that after buying the first, I bought second one. Now I can have one on a film camera and one on a dslr ALL THE TIME But what I wanted to say is there seems to be another mechanical problem with the design. One element became loose on othewise mint, almost unused copy and rattled inside. Had to go to a local repair shop, now it is OK. Just warning you this may happen.

There is always someone that will des agree with yours findings..... I've tried several samples off the lenses ....
The god ones are(wide open sharpness and contrast) Pentax K 55/Takumar 55 Olympus OM 50mm f1.8 Pancolar 50mm and pentacon 50mm.

I have owned 5 copies of the Pentax 50mm F1.7 and one of them was really good, stopped down was as sharp as sharp can be, but not at the maximum aperture.
This is the less expensive 50mm lenses then there are the more expensive type Contax Zeiss 50mm f1,7 and Viogtlander 58mm f1.4 which is good of course
