cause of the sharpness the 31mm with a crop gets 77mm so you got both lenses with the 31 and thats the reason this lens is the best!

I'm going to go on a photo shoot on the weekend with my poor little dejected down beaten SMC Tak 50/1.4. Ha, it will show that 31 a thing or two... hehe.
I promised the 'Latest Acquisition' thread that tonight I would post a beauty shot of my new-to-me FA43 and FA31 using some other special lens. Hmmmm. FA77 is $896 at B&H/Adorama. I wonder if I can get free overnight delivery?

Nah. I'll just use the K135/2.5.*

* I'll probably break down and buy the 77 anyway, though. It will mean liquidating virtually my entire MF lens catalog, but that's been the plan for months anyway.

The FA31 is more unique, but I like the FA77 better and used it much more than the FA31, so the FA77 gets my vote here.

Note that I spoke in the past tense. I've already sold both of these lenses a while back. I'd rather vote for any of a number of * lenses above these, which I've already done with my wallet.

EDIT: To be clear, these are both outstanding lenses that I'd be happy to use again, but there's a real difference between "outstanding" and the "Greatest Pentax Lens of All Time!"

Also, the FA77 gets credit for having a better, pull-out hood. The FA31 is stuck with a fixed hood that not only permanently takes up extra space, but it makes it difficult (or impossible) to use certain filters, and it's the only lens I could never use my 77mm ExpoDisc with (which caused a problem on numerous occasions).

This one: it's just so darn pretty.

Nice rendering too.

Mind you, the FA31 is no slouch.

77 is worth liquidating probably most of your MF catalog, it really is that good. I would keep the 135 though, even if it is a heavy beast with an overly long minimum focus. It does have its own unique way of rendering.

Probable final catalog:

K28/3.5 | K35/3.5 | AD-2 SP90/2.5 52BB | K105/2.8 | K135/2.5 | K200/2.5
FA31/1.8 | FA43/1.9 | FA50/2.8 Macro | [Placeholder FA77] | DA55~300

K-01 | SMC DA40 Ltd.

Monochrome, I love your focus on K series lenses. If you tolerate their larger relative size (I refer to comparison with latter K mount lenses) then it is a no brainer - those lenses are simply divine!!!

I feel, however, you might do well to squeeze in a the 28/2; 30/2.8 and 85/1.8 from the K series .......

I like that line-up a lot and makes complete sense. Only lens I would potentially add would be a good A50 f/1.2 alongside the 43 and Macro.

It's a tough one but I'd have to go with the 31. It's just a great around lens.

I have both, both are very good and 31mm will probably win... However I like portraits more, so my vote goes to 77mm.

I don't own the 77mm, so my vote goes for the 31 ltd...

Just not comfortable with the "Greatest Pentax Lens ever" nomination though... too many subjective criteria to get there... but I understand this is not very "serious"
I'd stop at the 4 categories winners!
