77 over 31 purely because it is better balanced mounted, an equal mix of function and form (perhaps a bit more form

) and it benefits from Jun Hirakawa's touch.

This match up is not about the lens anymore, it is about your personal style. It appears to me that the winner will be the one that reflects the most common style of photography.

Because the FA31 is wider it possibly makes it slightly more versatile. I also note a large cohort of wide angle shooters about (aka DA15mm), so voting may sway towards the FA31.

Conversely, the FA77 is portrait king on FF and cropped sense (effectively 135mm). It can do a landscape to, but not as proficiently as the FA31 .... remembering the FA77 has slain the 85mm A* and FA* should also not be ignored.

Hmmm, hard choice and there can only be one.

I've just ordered 31 mm from Adorama. But 77 mm will be probably the next one...

Having both and loving of them the same. I have to choose the FA 31mm Ltd, simply because it makes more sense to me to always choose the normal lens first. But for portraits, it makes more sense to always choose the FA 77mm Ltd first.

"Then the FA 43mm Ltd second for wider portraits!"

Sad the most relevant lenses for the current systems have been eliminated. These two definitely need updating to add quick shift focus, modern coating and built in lens hoods.
Still if I have to pick one it'll be the 31 as it is probably a bit more versatile, although not as much as the 35 Macro.

I'm going to go on a photo shoot on the weekend with my poor little dejected down beaten SMC Tak 50/1.4. Ha, it will show that 31 a thing or two... hehe.

I have both and I love both. Very hard decision in terms of IQ only.

However I found the 31 mm focal length more 'useful' for my shooting: that is, I shoot more with the FA31m than the FA77mm. For that reason, I chose FA31mm, but this is very tough call.
