It gave a great acceptance speech, too. Just a shame it went on a little long and got political about its creator now being at Tamron, so the orchestra started playing to cut it off.

Cheers for the FA 77. He his the elected King of Pentax lenses. Now, the 31 and 43 can seat proudly on the right and left sides of their amigo to lead all Pentax glasses

All other Pentax lenses shall show their respect to their king who would not have such highness if there were not so many great knights among them, the DA*300, DA 35 Ltd, Super Tak 50, to cite those I use, and many others .

... but, donīt forget F*300/4.5... THATīS a great lens. Thereīs a lot of great lenses made by Pentax and itīs obviously the user who decide which lens is the best. I do agree that FA31 and FA77 (but I donīt forget the FA 43 ) are the best - but thatīs my opinion and need. Cheers

Great, we have a winner--but at what cost? Think of the hard feelings this has generated. I, for one, will never forgive those (myself included ) who voted against the DA*300/4 &/or the FA*200/4 Macro.

Pep talk for the lenses left on the shelf

Well, I’m hearing quite a lot of commotion in my lens cabinet. Guess I’ll need to break the news to my team of lenses that didn’t make the cut. I’ll bring them together tonight on the kitchen table, break open a bottle of wine or scotch (for me), and give ‘em a pep talk. Not sure what to tell them...

DA 15: Don’t be too down, my friend, you’ve got a wider perspective on life than most of the others.
K 28/3.5: Well, look at it this way – you’ve got lots of colour and you’re a pretty sharp guy.
DA 35 Ltd: You have a knack of focusing closer than all the others, don't you? So that’s a pretty good skill to have.
SMC Tak 50/1.4: Yeah, those younger ones think they have it all, but cheer up, mate, you have lots of life. You're a smooth operator, that's for sure.
DA* 50 – 135: Hey, you’re a star, aren’t you? Guess this was prime time; your day will be next.

Anyways, the competition was stiff, and the tournament was fun. Definitely put a ‘focus’ on a terrific range of exceptional lenses.

They'll need a lot of love to get over the hurt. Which won't be a bad thing at all.

I've never owned or used the FA*200/4 macro, but I still know it should've been first, just ahead of probably the FA*85, the F*300, and some other very long or larger format lens most of us don't get to use.

I took it as a lesson in one's vote always counting - the FA*200/4 macro died for our edification

A timely sacrifice given the elections, and befitting of the dignity of a legend.

I agree with the 200 macro. The A * 135mm f1.8 also has to be up there, maybe the FA 300mm f2.8 -- these are special lenses that stand out from the solid offerings Pentax has had over the years. The FA 77 is a stellar performer and I am glad to own one, I just don't think it is quite up there with some of the rare gems of the past.
