First shots F70-210 - untouched

Here are 2 first shot images taken with two of my new toys I bought on the Marketplace, F70~210/4~5.6 and F35~70/3.5~4.5.

By the time I changed to its little brother the 35~70 the light was gone, so I shot what was left.

Not claiming these are great images, just test shots, but around 7:00 pm I was out playing in the yard, catching the last of the light and this jumped out at me.

#1 F70~210/4~5.6 jpeg extracted in Pentax Photobrowser and resized in Irfanview - no other PP done at all.
#2 F35~70/3.5~4.5 jpeg extracted in Pentax Photobrowser and resized in Irfanview - slight sharpen in Irfanview.

EXIF intact.

Both lenses are 2-touch zoom (there is a zoom ring and a separate focusing ring) so there really isn't any zoom creep. Manual focusing is not like an M lens because the focus ring is right at the front of the lens and about 1/4 wide and plastic. If you like the focus feel of manual lenses you should use auto.

The 70~210 is not too heavy - it seems to balance well on the K10D when cradled properly (good habits have a purpose) and certainly isn't as big as a manual zoom.

These lenses are pushing 20 years old, so you need to get the right copy. They do have reputation for taking nice, sharp pictures with good color transmission. I have read some reviewers call the 70~210 the best lens Pentax ever made (a little over the top, I think), but it is at the top of the high-end consumer zoom lenses.

The barrels are metal, which is why they have lasted this long. Some question the build quality as the plastic strips around the aperture guide tends to peel.

I sold the DA 50~200 to get these (2 for 1) and we'll see in a month or two if I made a good decision - the DA was excellent in sunlight. Right now both are in my everyday bag - the 70~210 mounted - along with the FA50/1.4 and the FA35/2.

I'd say you made a really good deal there. Both are fantastic lenses, especially the F35-70 which is a really good "macro" lens.
