Personally, the best picture I took was with the 43. But it is a difficult lens for me. Perhaps 7 or 8 out of 10 ends up in a trash bin. I find it difficult, but every now and then, I nail a shot that's worth every penny I paid for it. It probably means I'm not working hard enough.

The 77 is just pure effortless magic. I like it (a lot) but I also feel that there's still much to learn. I have a higher keeper rate here, but at this moment, I'm still using it as a one-trick pony: (stop down, portrait shoulder up, and admire that film-like rendering). I guess that this should be more versatile with more practice.

Ah, the 31. If you look in a dictionary for the definition of "pixie dust", you'll find a lovely image of FA31. Enough said.

As to your choice, I believe it should not be a question of "or" but "which one to get first". If I were to do it all over again, I would have gotten them in this order 31-77-43, instead of the 77-43-31. Given your options, I'll vote for 77, then 43.

But hurry before the FF comes out and the prices double

i will advice contrary to everyone here - i don't space and reason neither for 43 or 77 there.....unless you have some real good reason for that
your lens line is pretty much universal ....covering everything you need....with a great performing lenses ....difference between those and fa limiteds will be marginal, waste of money on the contrary would be huge .....if i am in your shoes, i use that money for something else, which will make a bigger impact on my photography....like for example buying a good flash, or tripod with panoramic head or set of filters ....or just paying for a trip somewhere if landscapes are your thing, or paying a model to shoot some portraits etc etc

Certainly taking this view onboard...

If I don't get a new prime, I do still need a general purpose WR zoom...

Perhaps I'll wait til the dust settles on the new 16-85mm and get it or the 18-135mm

My choice was to simplify my life and own all three FA Limiteds at the expense of selling everything else.

I like that idea. I could dump my DA*16-50 and DA*50-135 and pick up the FA 77 brand new! I would never get rid of my F*300 though. So that would give me FA 31, FA 43, FA 77, and the F*300.

The 43

Would the 43 or 77 justifiably coexist with the 35mm, 55mm and 100mm? The 55mm is very impressive but not the smallest, 35mm a dark horse, feels fragile at times though.

I'm thinking eventually I'll source a 2nd hand WR Zoom to provide the much needed WR to this setup. Think I might wait until the 16-85mm is shipped/available, might be some deals flying about as people offload stuff.

I would start with the 43mm. I replaced my 55mm and 35mm DA with the 43mm ... not a problem. Just zoom a little with your feet.

Small lens. Wonderful results. If you still have cash left over then buy the 77mm as well.

I have a K200/2.5 that's very sticky.

I admit I'll need either your F*300 or the new FF zoom and the 1.4xTC. But still - 5 lenses, down from 40!

I went with FA43 first.

1. It's the cheapest, so I get to judge whether FA Ltd is worth it for the least amount of money.
2. It's significantly smaller than FA31 and close enough to 35mm to be used as a normal lens.
3. It's the least appreciated, so good deals on used market come more often than for the other two.

And now that I have it, I'm on the watch for the next one. I lean to FA77, but you never know what opportunities might arise.

I'd get the first one of the two I saw with a can't pass it up deal (that is what I did with the FA31). You will probably be happy with either one but really good prices only come along occassionally. That from a cheep skate

I agree with others the 77mm would probably close the gap between the 55mm and the 100mm. However the 77mm is not as versatile when it comes to everyday, street photography. You really have to pick your subjects with this lens, because on a cropped camera it is the equivalent of 105mm.

So did I. Brand new it was $585 and gave me a taste of what the FA limiteds can do. So far I get more "pixie dust" pictures from the FA 43 than I do with the FA 31. But I'm still learning the FA 31.......I had to learn how to use the FA 43 too.
