Do you have this lens? I had paid 1000 EURO for this lens and got decentering lens with bad IQ and problems with AF at different focal length
mine is (nearly) perfect, no decentering, no AF issues, sharp in corners, but its a lens to learn. I'm more used to primes.

Does it mean that there are no 20-40 with issues? Are you a measure of all things in the world?

Is that a based assumption? I'm interested in a link/reference if it is.

to be fair, you both described your experience with this lens, which is undoubtedly (by me) useful information and I'm not sure why it can be a basis for an argument.

Thanks. I see that the blue sharpness stripe does seem to favor the Sigma

Yeah, I'm very concerned with the sharpness cause the other factors (CA, distortion...) can usually be corrected with Lightroom profile/DXO optic pro
And the price tag make a huge difference too

If you don't need the rendering of the DA 20-40, get a Tamron 17-50/2.8 for half the price.

This is what I've been thinking too. I'd like to see how this stacks against DA*16-50, Sigma 17-50 and Tamron 17-50. I just don't see a case for it.
Look at the samples in the DA Limited Zoom lens club to see what the case is.
Then, if your eye doesn't see anything special, get the Tamron.

I put prodigital2k out of my misery by taking their open-box 20-40 at $679 a couple of weeks ago. It was there for a few hours at least, I expected to be out-clicked for it - but now similar prices have appeared for the rest of you At that price it's a bit cheaper than two Limited primes instead of three, much easier to manage. No way I'd be caught carrying that massive Sigma, and it's nice to have another wr/dc option.

Tests show little if any decentering but definitely some field curvature appears on closeup shots at 20mm. That won't be a common shot for me, and my Tamron 90 can take those. The only aberrations was in the far corner at 20mm also, a bit of color fringing. So I'm another of the happy / fortunate LimiZoom owners. It's sad that so many newer lenses (Pentax or otherwise) are getting odd copies out to reviewers and early-on, full-price buyers -- the first off the line should be nearly perfect so word will spread!

These guys seem to have finished representing Ricoh/Pentax in Slovakia and have some nice prices on few items they have left. 20-40 for 637 EUR. Somebody from PF bought a lens (60-250?) from them and had OK experience.

Congratulations!

Don't forget to post to the DA Limited Zoom lens club.

The DA 20-40 is for producing photographs, not for just looking good on the lab report!

I'd still rather get the Sigma 18-35 Art and get a plastic bag for WR
Read the new in depth review first. I'm not so sure now.

Unfortunately the 20-40mm is about £650 here.. it does seem quite a lot, I appreciate its versatile, but that sort of money buys you many of the other high rated lens in the system

I wish they'd make a 30mm or 35mm DA* or DA WR ... then no need for WR zooms at the lower focal ranges for me...

You made a blanket statement that is demonstrably false. Man up, and admit you were wrong to do so.
