You wrote that Pentax got "no quality control" and everybody even slightly into manufacturing will tell you that the statement is false. Perfect quality control is both way too expensive and practically utopia so there will always be bad copies.

Read one more time, please. And I will wait for your apologies.
I had experience of shooting with DA20-40. I understand that this lens has potential and ability, but I can't get it.
The price of lens was 1000 EURO, I'd like to see better QC for such money. Am I wrong?

You made a blanket statement that is demonstrably false. Man up, and admit you were wrong to do so.
You ask me to explain you why your lenses are good, isn't it strange?
Why I don't ask you why my copy of 20-40 was bad?

Why not get another copy? My first MIJ 77 Limited had smear on the inside of the rear element right out of the box. Got a new one. This one developed a mark on the inside of the rear element due to the fact that the focusing group lens collided with the fixed rear element. Then I got another one. It works perfectly....

I can buy Pentax lenses only thru internet. The Pentax's official dealer is 5000 km from my home. I can't check the lenses before buying.
Pentax dealer had changed my 20-40 to FA31. They offered another copy of 20-40, but I couldn't decide.

I'm hoping this is a language issue. The comments so far have not been useful to those of us who do not own the lens and wonder how good or bad it is. Rather than claim they are good or bad - maybe posting pictures taken with the bad and good versions would help us understand the various perspectives here. Otherwise I would just as soon stop reading this thread as it is deteriorated into he said she said without any real backing.

Pentax Russia. Sankt Peterburg.
There is one computer shop (!!!) which sells some Pentax lenses in my city. But only one copy of each lens. And more expensive than in Sankt Peterburg.
But no 20-40 there.

There are lots of pictures with the lens on the
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/122-lens-clubs/247859-da-limited-zoom-club.html

BTW, I suspect that many complaints about softness at the wide end are due to reliance on PDAF.

On DSLRs, you can either focus at 40mm and then zoom out,
relying on the parfocal properties of the lens,
or else use the CDAF from live view.

It would be better if those stating that they see good or bad results backed it up by referencing the actual photos that illustrate their points.

No I don't. I have clicked. The links lead to generally nice photos but nothing tied to the arguments made directly in the thread.
