What is the purpose of the "Green" button on FA lenses ?

What do you mean by green button? are you sure it is a button....

I think it meant the button that helps to align the lens in the camera mount.

Take a look at the FA 77mm, 43mm, and 31mm they all have it right next to the distance scale ?

This is not a button that you can press and is only there to align the lens to the camera mount. Same as the red dot sometimes used on normal lenses. Hope this helps.

That is the "bump" (or sometimes called the "nubbin"...I don't remember what its proper name is). On the FA Limiteds it is green cloisonne enamel. On other K-mount lenses it is usually white or ivory colored plastic. Its purpose is an aide to mounting the lens in low light. On K-mount film cameras, aligning the "bump" with the lens release tab on the body aligns the lens properly for mounting. The "bump" is present on all K-mount lenses prior to the DA series.

it is a shame that they removed it. was handy to change a lens in the dark.

The bump is not precisely in line with the K-3 release button, however. It is just in the near vicinity. Just so the OP does not start trying to force the FA lens on the wrong part of the bayonet!
