I voted for the sigma 18-50mm F2.8

The main reason is you will appreciate the constant wide apature and what it allows you to do.

It is a really difficult choice, because you are essentually upgrading your kit lens, but not expanding your range.

If it were me, I might have opted for either something wider, or longer as a next move, but that is me, everyone is different.

I have the DA 16-45mm. Got it as a kit lens replacement. The 1mm difference with the Sigma is quite significant but I find that I sometimes feel it doesn't go long enough. I'd suggest you wait until the DA 17-70mm f/4 comes out. If anything the price for the DA 16-45mm might go down even lower. Anyway I've always preferred the colour rendition of the Pentax.

Two reasons to wait! It'd offer the range I wanted, it is Pentax and at worse case, it'd drop the price for the 16-45.


PentaxSLR.com doesnt even list it as an option thou...

Nor I like one of the proposed solutions. But in my -personal- agenda weather sealing is good for walking around ...
