Sigma 10-20 Price Increase

Is my memory failing, or did the market price just jump for this lens?

I thought it was generally $450-$500 until I looked today via shopping.com. Now many dealers are asking $550-$570 for this lens.

Amazon is offering it for $480 but a: they don't actually have it, and b: they're not on the Sigma USA site as a US-authorized dealer. I think that means that buyers don't qualify for the extra 3-year warranty that gives a total of four years.

In any case, I used this news and my birthday as an excuse to give in to LBA and buy from B&H. "Look, my faerie queen, at how much money I saved by buying before they raised their prices!" I've been rehearsing that since noon CDT.

There's an airshow nearby this weekend and I can't wait to muck about (photgraphically speaking) a KC-135, AC-47, or an old red bi-wing of some kind or another. Life is good!

They appear to be grey market - they don't appear on the authorized list at the Sigma USA Web site.

Of course all of this is moot for those outside the US. I don't know anything of the availability of the four-year warranty elsewhere.

US prices should increase due to dollar weakness.

However, even here in Euro zone, my Sigma 12-24 now costs a lot more than at the time I purchased it

Things like the weak US dollar and increased manufacturing costs, shipping costs due to high fuel prices,is driving the prices of everything up. Now is probably a good time to buy. Sigma isn't forcing the dealers to raise prices, last winters heating bills are. A trucker hauling a load from coast to coast saw his profit for the trip gone because diesel prices rose 20 cents a gallon from the time he left to his delivery. Everybody is jacking up their prices to cover the costs. Get used to it.

Occasionally that's a good thing - the Canadian Sigma distributor (Gentec) offers a 10 year warranty...
