Pentax SMC P-FA 28-90mm 3.5-5.6 AL silver

Does anybody have this lens that can tell me how good it is. I can't get a 28-105 and might want to settle for this one.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. I like to take close-ups of flowers and just have a general purpose lens. Do not need an extended zoom. I have the 18-55 kit lens but not enough zoom. Can someone compare the 18-55, 28-105 and 28-90 3.5-5.6, all Pentax, for me. Thanks, Freddy

Don't know how much the 28~90 would cost, but you really ought to look at the DA 50~200 zoom. It has ED glass and is VERY sharp. There is a rebate going on now (50.00) so the net cost could be as low as 160.00 depending on where you buy.

Walt, I can get the Pentax 28-90 3.5-5.6 for $149. The 50-200 won't allow me to get close to the kids when I'm playing on the floor with them. I like to get in tight but won't get close with the 50mm. I need to get within 20 inches.
I strongly considered the 50-200 but the close focus distance on that very nice lens is over 3 feet! Freddy

That FA is one of the "budget" lenses, so you shouldn't expect much quality (unlike most other FA lenses).

I'd recommed the FA 28-105mm F4-5.6 (power zoom version, some are currently available on KEH), FA 24-90 F3.5-5.6 AL [IF], or a prime such as the 20mm F2.8 or 28mm F2.8 AL.

MO, is there anything in Tamron or Sigma in the 28-105 range that would give me quality comparable to the Pentax 28-105 3.2 lens that I can't find anywhere. Freddy..

KEH had both variants of the 28-105's in stock a few days ago, but I guess the 3.2-4.5 is gone one. I'd still recommend the power zoom version (which has a more durable build) if you have a K10D, however.

I have no clue what Sigma and Tamron offer- my shelf only bares Pentax lenses.

Thanks, Adam. I just put myself on the notification list for out of stock 28-105 3.2 lens (with Adorama and B&H photo). I don't want to compromise and am convinced the 28-105 3.2 is my best option in a reasonable price range. Regards, Freddy

Sigma has the 24-135mm. It goes from f/2.8 at the wide angle to f/4.5 at the telephoto, so it's not super fast, but it's decent. Cameta (on eBay) usually has these for $179US (up from about $99 a few months ago!)
