In terms of the K mount AF lenses that would be the 55-300 WR for me. At one point I thought hard about it but in the end I went for the WR 50-200zoom instead because I just needed the WR and the 55-300 WR is just a bit too pricey for me. I still want the 18-135 WR to replace my WR kit lens. Or a DA* prime maybe. But that's way out my range at the moment so probably I'll just get the 18-135 WR at some point and call it a day. In terms of the M43 cameras I still badly want the 60mm Sigma prime for my Oly's. I'm so impressed with my shorter ones. They are such great lenses for the money that I really want that 60mm to finish my M43 kit off. But it's pricey even used and I just can't rationalize it.

My lens budget is pretty minimal. I have to buy used to usually manage the AF lenses. Even the 18-135 used is really pushing it for me. I'm going to have to go into debt to get that one likely. Right now I'm paying off my new bodies so it's going to have to wait. But when I get those paid for I'll likely get that next. It just makes the most sense in terms of my needs for my kit. That lens is most of my range for work and it's K mount, AF. I'd like a prime but I probably will settle for the zoom in the end. $300 is pushing it enough. $800-1200 worth of limited prime that's just me dreaming, shrug.

For me it's always been the SMC Pentax-A* 300mm F2.8 ED [IF], purely cos I've fancied it.

But on quiet reflection... I already have the SMC Pentax-A* 300mm F4 and I seldom use it. Really... I can't remember the last time in fact, in Lightroom it says I've not used in the last year or so.

FA 77. I was just starting with photography and had this amazing opportunity to get a new, unused FA 31 for like 1/3 of the price, from a guy who did not know what he was selling. When I went to see the lens it turned out that it was not FA 31, poor guy was actually selling FA 77. I didn't get it before I wanted a lens in the 35mm range. I didn't even knew what FA 77 can do I that time, I was not familiar with the lens, what a missed opportunity.

...ouch!
Well, you can still wait for the first of December and hope for the best!
...if I somehow manage to win the 77 and you the 15, we can still tell the mods we'd like to swap!

Pentax F 135mm f2.8: I agonised before deciding that as lovely as it is, I wouldn't use it enough: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/276646-how-...ime-aps-c.html

Basically any really big 500mm lenses, because they are too damn obtrusive.

The FA 77/1.8 limited when KEH was offering it with 15% off a few days ago. They had a few available but I wasn't sure about buying one and then they were all gone.

I also had a good look at the FA* 24 a few months ago; I couldn't find any in France when I was looking for it, so I got myself a (used) DA 21 instead.
Erm, well, no longer, I got my FA*24 yesterday.

I never bought a DA 300. Not enough focal length, for me.

Yes I know I can put an extender on it, but what I really wanted was a modern, new Pentax 400 mm F 5.6. I was influenced by a friend's Canon L, 400 mm F 5.6 lens.

Not a big price difference in price between the Canon 400 and Pentax 300 and both are built to a very good standard. I find my Pentax 55-300 excellent...yes I know, it's only a consumer lens and yes I know, how can I possibly mention in the same breath...yet...the DA 300 and the humble 55-300. Mostly I suppose that I find my very early production 55-300 top notch. In fact I recall a Pop Photo test saying that it had the most unusual facility of being able to produce clear, sharp pics...throughout it's range, including 300mm.

So given that I was pretty happy with my 55-300 at 300...I wanted something with more focal length....I wanted a Pentax version of the Canon 400 mm L 5.6. So , although not quite what the OP was asking....but the lens that I didn't buy....because it was never made....was a Pentax 400 mm F 5.6 equivalent of the Canon previously mentioned.

What I did do, was not wait for Pentax any more, after a few years...was simply get a Sigma 150-500. A very good lens, BTW.

There are 3 lenses that I have repeatedly considered and have decided time and again not to purchase;
- HD DA 20-40; I liked the size and the range as well as the WR. I didn't find the AF tremendously fast, the variable aperture was ok but not stellar and I was concerned about Pentax's motor failures in the past (although those were SDM). Instead I spent more money on a HD DA 21 and a HD DA 40 and have no regrets.

- DA* 16-50; motor failure history was the main reason for avoiding this lens along with the lack of upgrade with lens coatings. I will add HD DA 15 later this year to my 21, 40, 70 combo to gain the additional width the lens would have provided.

- DA* 50-135; I avoided this lens for the same reasons I chose not to purchase the DA* 16-50. I have picked up the HD DA 70 instead with the intention of adding the WR DA 100 macro at some point.
