What's the reason for your preference? Ease-of-use considerations and writing aperture data into EXIF lead me to prefer the A, but knowledge is power.
Only preference is ease of use for auto aperture functions.

Just to add, my impression is the K version seems to be available more often at a little better price.

Definitely the A for me, then - with one fifty-ish mm f/1.2 lens already behaving like a K, I don't need another.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled lens p0rn.

Well, are we counting 55's?

50mm -
Pentacon 1.8 (Multicoated, pretty nice)
Rikenon f/2
Nikon Series E (My favorite)
SMC-M f/1.4 (haven't shot it yet)

55
Nikkor N/AI 1.2
Rikenon 1.4
Super-Tak 1.8
Chinon 1.7 (Surprisingly good)

The Nikon Series E has impressed me the most, it just makes things look good in the viewfinder (and printed), plus it's my smallest and 2nd cheapest, so I don't mind carrying it around. In 55, the Super Tak is the best 55, nothing else has impressed me *THAT* much.

I've sold an SMC-M 50 f/2, because it was on a KX which was my only K-mount camera. Not a bad lens, but the combination left me feeling meh whenever I used it, and I'm trying to get rid of things that aren't getting used regularly.

Thread revival?

I had an A50/2 and a Rikenon50/1.7

Gave them both away for free on the Marketplace to members that were starting out and needed gear...

Now I'm 50-less and looking to fill the void.

I really want to go to 1.2
A50mm/1.2 is pricy though...
Is there a big difference between 1.2/1.4/1.7 on the A version?
Once you stop down to f2.8 does it really matter (besides the physical size of the lens of course.)

Cheers!

The Pentax 1.2 is worth every penny..
There is a difference between the 3 lenses
1.2 wide open sharp where it should to be and oh so creamy bokeh
1.4 wide open is a tiny bit soft and dreamy all over in my opinion but it is a wonderful lens because of that
1.7 Good all around lens I don't like the A version as much as the M version..

at 2.8 they are all great but the Pentax 1.2/50 is the best K and A are both so close in image quality that the only reason you would want to pay for the A version is for camera to lens communication

And I thought I had many 50mm lenses...

I have M 50 f1.7- my first prime lens, after which I haven't touched my zooms. CZJ 50 2.8, as I wanted to try it. I love it, particularly for black and white, there is something very special about its rendering.

Just got Helios 44-2. Well, I paid for it a week ago, but who would've thought that a bank money transfer would take so long... Still on the way somewhere...

I would like to get K 1.4... I am afraid of looking at CZJ 1.7, as I am afraid I might not have enough will power to resist.

So I guess I have 2 now, and potentially 3 if that money transfer ever makes it to Russia

It is a bit warmer than the A and somewhat more prone to flare due to later coating improvements, but I actually prefer the K rendering. Superb lens.

I have one 50 left, an A50/1.2

I have left go of the following:
Super Takumar 50/1.4
Super Takumar 55/1.8
SMC K50/1.4
SMC K50/1.2
SMC K55/1.8
SMC M50/1.4
SMC M50/4 Macro
SMC A50/1.7
SMC FA50/1.7
SMC FA50/1.4
SMC DA*55/1.4
Zeiss Makro-Planar 2/50

I kept the A50/1.2 because it is just a bit better than the 1.7s or 1.4s. My favourite 1.7 was the FA version, my favourite 1.4 the Super Takumar. I will probably revisit the K55/1.8 as it has its own distinct colour rendition that is that bit richer than usual Super Takumars or K's of that period. The DA*55 disappointed me to be honest, my sample returned images that were a bit meh when compared to the A50/1.2 or the Zeiss Makro.
The Zeiss Makro-Planar was left go very reluctantly but it was sacrificed for a unexpected 6K engine rebuild. Worth €700? probably, build alone is worth half of that and then the micro contrast and sharpness will return the second half. I have a suspicion that the DFA50/2.8 Macro might show it a thing or two but I won't get one until Pentax updates the cheap plastic body.
Tactile wise, I would rate in following order of preference, Super Takumar, Zeiss, A50/1.2 (built as an A* really), DA*, K's, FA's, M's and standard A's come last.
All the 1.7s and especially the 1.4s need a suitable hood. Improves contrast no end wide open.
Flare handling was worst with the older 55s and the 50 improved with each generation. The DA* suffered from a lot of purple fringing wide open.
Bokeh, 1.2 then Zeiss, then 1.4s then 1.7s. The 55/1.8s has rough bokeh from f2.8 onwards.

I've bought things from both Russia and the Ukraine, but truth be known I never gambled that much. The Ukrainian fellow made noises about not guaranteeing speedy shipment in case Putin bombed the post office, but it got there in the end.

Well, to save you trouble in the future - don't try wiring Canadian dollars to Russia - Canadian banks don't wire rubles (for political reasons, as they told me), and Russian banks don't accept Canadian dollars (no reason given). So I just wasted a week and $30 in transfer fees, unless the bank reimburses me the fee. After all, they should've known Russians don't accept Canadian dollars... I am (I hope) getting 3 lenses for $120 US, so I think it is still a bargain, even with transfer fees.

Mine was an e-bay purchase, and the whole thing went through PayPal. Wouldn't have done it any other way.

The thing is, Ebay prices on Russian lenses are way higher than what you pay on Russian versions of Ebay. To give you an example: I am hoping to conclude this transaction and get Tair 11, Helios 44-2, and Mir 1-V for $120. I bought Jupiter 37A for $20. But you are dealing with local classifieds, essentially, or Russian versions of Ebay, so it is a bit more risky...

Absent the ability to speak, read or write fluent Russian, the Russian versions of e-bay are useless to me. In this, I think we differ. Best of luck with your transaction.
