Tamron AF 28-200 mm f/3.8-5.6 LD (IF) Aspherical Super

Just found this lens in a box, I bought it in 1996 for my wife. Thought it was gone a long time ago, surprised to see it there. Works surprisingly well and sharp on my K20D.

Trying to find out some more info on it, so who else better to ask, than all of you

Tamron AF 28-200 mm f/3.8-5.6 LD (IF) Aspherical Super. 72mm filter thread. On the focusing ring, there's a orange tulip symbol, I'm thinking that's it's close-focusing feature? I don't think it's a macro (at least it doesn't say it is a macro)

thanks

the flower usually indicates a Macro Mode, however it probably won't go past 1:4 magnification. I have the newer XR version.

This lens also exist under the Pentax name: Pentax SMC-FA 28mm-200mm f/3.8-5.6 AL(IF). I own one and it works perfectly with my K20.

I chanced upon an almost new copy of the Pentax FA 28-200mm from a used computer store just last week for US$40. Optically it is average for a superzoom though performance at the long end is so-so. Build quality is OK for this rebadged Tamron.

Here's the lens:

A sample image taken with it at a Pentax camera user meet-up:

Thanks for all the info.

That's interesting, because that's exactly what the EXIF data shows when I took some pics with it... SMC Pentax FA 28mm-200mm f/3.8-5.6 AL(IF), so I was thinking maybe there was a Pentax twin out there.

here's a quick pic I took right after I found it...

gonna play with it some more and decide whether to keep it or sell it for real cheap!
