Interesting lens auction popped up on my fleabay homepage

This may just have been some kind of replacement/repair job a long time ago, but Takumars are not my speciality so in case this is interesting to a collector:

NO NAME? M42 135mm f3.5 SMC Takumar - non-standard, blank front lens bezel | eBay

I have seen lenses with the name scratched out or otherwise defaced, but never with a blank face ring. I suspect that this has ring off a different brand lens (is quite different than the original) that was attached during a service attempt at some point.

Could it simply have the front plate on backwards?

Looks like something is screwed in and is covering the face ring.

Now there is a thought.

Compare the eBay image to the one from the lens review database on this site.

That's exactly what I did. Note the threads are covered, like something has been screwed in. Judging
by the thickness of the face ring in the auction, and the thickness of the threads seen in the lens database,
I say it looks like something is screwed in front of the face ring.

But it's silver. Not chrome, but SILVER. Surely a rare edition.

Almost as good a deal as the Olympus AF 50 he's selling for $31.75. Act fast, those old point & shoots are hard to come by.

The description says there is a "secondary" bezel under the blank bezel that contacts the lens. So you're probably right. I wonder if it is a bezel that belongs inside the lens - the matte finish suggests this.

That is one seriously delusional / wildly optimistic seller. Yowza.

As I've thought many times before: Canon users have no respect for Pentax lenses. Looks like this guy used a pair of diagonal cutters to "repair" the filter ring. It must have seen some serious use/abuse for the paint to have worn off like that. Is it no wonder the aperture is stuck at f1.2?

The bad: Upon receiving this lens, there was fungus inside that required a CLA. It proved to be impossible to proceed without mangling the lens front filter mount. The glass itself is not scratched, but no filters can be mounted directly on the lens (obviously). There IS still some fungus within (see pics) but it does NOT affect the images. Also, the aperture seems to be stuck at 1.2. It can most likely be "unstuck" by someone with more skills than myself.
