Minolta S mount aka Minolta MD.

Note the notch in the bayonet flag and the MD tab on the aperture ring.

Thanks!
Saved me from making a mistake in buying this.
Is it easy to convert this lens to a K-mount in the manual focus series from Sigma?

Note that it is a manual focus lens and lacks any electrical contacts...

I am looking around and haven't found a hack to convert these lenses.
If I take a cheap Sigma K-mount lens and swap it onto the 400mm will that possibly work? or are there too many mechanical changes inside to make it worth it.

Minolta MD registration distance was much shorter than K-mount. It's not generally considered worth the effort. But they adapt easily to mirrorless systems.

At first I would say it is an Minolta SR (aka MD) mount however on closer examination:
  • The notch in the bayonet tab is on the wrong side for Minolta.
  • The part that looks like a shroud for an aperture control lever is in the wrong position for Minolta. It should be about 180 degrees from the lock notch. And a shroud is not normal for Minolta mounts.
  • There appears to be a locking pin slot at 6 o'clock in the picture above. This is not normal for Minolta.
  • There appears to be a control tab on the aperture ring from from about 6 o'clock to 8 o'clock This is not normal for Minolta either. This could be part of the tripod foot however.

With a Minolta SR/MD mount if the mount alignment dot is at 9 o'clock with the back of the lens facing you then:
  • the lock notch would be at about 11:45. It would also be on the the right half of the tab.
  • the aperture stop down lever would be around 5 to 5:45 o'clock depending on the aperture setting.
  • the MC tab (aperture linkage) would be from around 10 o'clock to 12 o'clock depending on the f-stop
  • the MD tab (program mode setting indicator) would be from around 12:15 to 2 o'clock. This lens does not have a second "MD" tab.

It looks more like a Nikon mount but doesn't really conform to that either.

For reference here are photos of several Minolta lens and one Kiron with SR/MD mount. All were set to f16 and the mount alignment mark at around 9 o'clock

Minolta MC Rokkor - PF 1:1.4 58mm - circa 1966-1969

Minolta MD W.Rokkor-X 28mm 1:2.8 - circa 1978-1980 (purchased new 1981)

Minolta MD 50mm 1:1.4 (purchased new 1981)

Kiron 80-200mm f/4 Macro 1:4 (purchased new 1982)

Note relative position of lock notch on tab and position of aperture stop-down lever. Note lack of MD tab on the MC Rokkor - PF

In what way? It seems to have all the right lumps and ridges to me, in the right places. No indexing fork, but that just means it's fairly new.

I'd say it's likely to be a semi-modern Nikon mount. It should mount on a modern Nikon camera, and meter properly if it's a decent one. May mount badly on a Pentax, but probably not in this case.
