My Latest Arrival: 50mm Macro

I've been checking KEH every day for this M 50mm/4 Macro, and it finally popped up (EX) on Monday. It's practically like new, so I don't know why they gave it such a low grade.

Why might I have been looking for this particular lens? Simple: to complete my colection of M 50mm's. A's are also down, but I have a ways to go with F's and FA's

I took a few sample shots today, and I'm highly satisfied with the sharpness and IQ. Have any of you guys actually used it in practice? How does it compare to the A 50mm/2.8 macro?

First shot: 1:2.5
Second shot: 1:6

Mo, These shots are nice. The detail is there. I am finding the berry shot a bit soft, but the focus looked like it was it was just behind the front berry. Looks like the lens is tricky to handle.

The first shot is cropped, and since I was trying to focus by moving my tripod (to retain fixed magnification), I guess it was a bit off.

But you're right- the details is there, and if you manage to focus correctly, this lens can probably surpass the quality of some of the AF models.

Hi Mo. The colour is definitely there both vibrant and rich.

To me, there seems to be great difference in colour coming out of M, A or FA.

M lenses produce more punchy colour; A lenses give off higher contrast; FA lenses produce neutral colour.
