Is there any advantage to either generation of the Sigma 28-80 Macro?

FYI, the lenses were also marketed under a variety of camera store names and generic names, not merely as Sigma. Better still is the 28-90 macro, more reach and better ratings.

I have a Sigma 28-80 macro with the metal mount. I think I read that some of them came with plastic mounts. I like it a lot; my only reservation is that the focus mechanism is a little rough; like it's got sand in it or something. The Macro switch is a little clumsy I think, but it works. It was purchased used at a very inexpensive price and I use it a lot.
