Warning: Thread hijack!!

The 17/4 SMC Tak is one of my favourite lenses, and I use it a LOT. It's ALWAYS with me, since it's so small.

What does it do well?

Distortion is there if you know how to use it, or gone if you know how to hide it. One of the best lenses in my arsenel, for sure.

How close can you get to a subject?????
If it is pretty close than it sounds like a worth-while lens to get.

Min focus distance is labeled at 0.2m on the scale, but it moves past that to somewhere between 0.15-0.18m I think, so 15-18cm from the focal plane. That translates to maybe...10cm from the front of the lens? The acorn above is very near min focus distance...the large DOF and background make for lots of creative possibilities with closeups....

By the way, the reason the first pictures don't show up, is that you have "referrer logging" turned on.
Thanks for the tip!
Now I'll try to figure out where you switch that off

Agreed. Nice photos to show your points.
Here are a couple to reinforce your points 2 & 3:
BTW the K10D does not have a "17mm" setting on the Shake Reduction, as I guess there are no K mount lenses with this focal length, but 18 seems to work fine

Thanks for the info mate.
This lens sounds more promising by the minute ... although finding one out there might be a bit harder than first thought. I think it will be on my to get list though.

Prices on the Zenitar 16/2.8 have gone up in recent months. Current pricing on rugift.com is:

M-42 mount $199 USD
Pentax K (non-A) $205 USD
Shipping is an additional $30 USD

Delivery takes about a month.

The various eBay stores are similarly priced.
