FA85mm f1.4 from Japan

Hi guys,

I have been looking at ebay for the FA85mm f1.4 despite already owning a FA77 f1.8 [LBA].
I saw a couple of them on ebay and all of them are from japan. Has anyone ever get one from those japanese and realize its all a hoax?
I think i should be content with my 77mm...

I wouldn't doubt, if there is a place to find new old stock in pristine condition, it would have to be in Japan.

I don't aleonx3, I am a bit skeptical... if they were good stuff it would have been snatched up... some were like selling less than what a new sigma 85mm f1.4 is... maybe i am just paranoid...

I don't know about the good price or not. The majority of the lenses (any brand or variety) rarely move (sell) - just give you an idea of the market. I have been to Japan many times, it is rare that they sell beat up lenses or lenses with lots of flaw (unless stated otherwise) - in fact, I find most of them are in pristine conditions.

I think what the OP is referring to is that on ebay, there are quite a lot of lens listings where the lenses look very new and are from Japan, but are a lot cheaper than expected.

For example, most places would list the FA*80-200 2.8 around $1600-$2000, but the ebay ones have it from Japan for around $1200-$1400. Most places would list the FA*28-70 2.8 around $1000+, but the ebay ones have it from Japan/HK for around $700.

@the OP - I don't know if the lenses at the lower prices from Japan/HK are real or not. I definitely wouldn't risk it unless you are sure that your payment method (paypal/credit card) can guarantee your money back. One big issue is that they likely will send it via a slower mailing method that could render your buyer protection useless.

China or Russia yes, Japan no. All this gear is MIJ, so it's not unusual to find NOS or mint Pentax items still available from Japan.

I have purchased numerous Pentax 6x7/67 NOS/Mint gear from Japan and ALL were exactly as advertised.
Also the EMS shipping from Japan is second to none.
