So, I just purchased the DA* 16-50 from B&H new for $829. Hopefully the SDM issues are resolved and won't be an issue. Thanks everyone for all of your input. Quite a bit of information to sift through!
Well not to pat us on the back too much... but if you got through this thread, I'm sure you understand every relevant issue. I hope you enjoy yours as much as many others on the forum enjoy theirs.

Good price on a very good lens. Mine rarely leaves my K-5.

Good choice.

Sounds like you got a good price. Looking forward to photos when you start snapping away with your new acquisition.

There have been a lot of times when I was trying to make a decision, I would have loved a thread like this. As long as the thread doesn't descend into name calling etc. there's a lot to be learned from enthusiasts defending their favourite lens. TO me, often more than some "expert" making some "cold calculating" comparison. No one knows a lens better, than someone who uses it day in day out, and often every day users are aware of strengths and weaknesses a casual reviewer will never pick up on.

I couldn't agree more. DA* 16-50 is a good example indeed. Based on various reviews and ratings you might think that it's an average lens only. But IMHO it's a superb lens - not perfect (but then again, which lens is perfect?), but really good.

Yes, I agree - I think it is very useful.
