Removing front element of A-series primes

I have done surgery on many old lenses, to clean them or fix stuck aperture blades, etc; oftentimes, with the old lenses you can simply unscrew a piece just below the filter threads and from there remove the front elements. Is this possible with any of the A-series prime lenses, or do you have to go through the rear mount to access any of the front elements?

This is more for curiosity than anything else.

From what I have seen the process is the same but if you post the specific lens model and version (maybe including serial to help people narrow it down) you'll get a better answer.
