Kitstar 28mm/F2.8

I picked this lens of as part of a mixed bag of M42 lenses, including 2 Super Taks and some other stuff. I've never heard of this company so I did a bit of research. It turns out that the Kitstar lenses are rebadged, made by one of the Japanese lens manufacturers. Kits Camera (now part of Ritz) was a chain store that sold them. I have no idea who made this one, but it's as sharp a lens wide open as anything I've got in my lens kit. In my very informal testing, I found that it can go toe-to-toe with the Super-Tak 28mm/F3.5 without even blinking.

A few sample pics:

Super-Tak 28/3.5 (wide open @ 3.5)

Kitstar 28/2.8 (wide open @ 2.8)

Granted, the Tak is more contrasty and has richer colors, but this Kitstar is every bit as sharp. I think the boken is a little smoother with the Kitstar as well. (BTW, the 2 comparison shots were taken at ISO 3200).

A few more shots with the Kitstar, all shot wide open at F2.8:

Sharp lashes and smooth bokeh (~50% crop/resized)

100% crop of the last one
