Compare the lens prototypes

So now that there are new official images of the lens prototypes, and assuming that they are of the same lenses that we saw back in Photokina, we can easily compare them. The first thing, which is interesting but may just be a matter of accident, is, that the new prototypes lost their HD red ring... and the assumed 70-200/2.8 got additional tripod mount. Anythiing else you can see? (of course, both got new hoods )

true, there's just a plain cover plate for the area where the switches used to be...

I'm sure they got rid of the red ring after the storm of complaints about the red rings on Canon L series lenses

The large aperture lens has a configuration of 3 bayonet flanges to hold on the lens hood, this dictates its a Tokina lens and is a version of the 70-200 f4 full frame lens, the long zoom has a configuration of 4 bayonet flanges to hold on the lens hood this dictates it is a Sigma lens and is a version of the 150-500 lens, the camera body is a restyled version of the K-S1 with a fold out screen (this probably means no FLU card function Flag Ship will have both), I wonder if the new 18-50 will retain screw drive AF, if not the new FF or apsc flagship may be SDM only.

Snappertim, I am sorry, but this is the first time I hear that number of flanges to hold a hood dictates the original design source. Do you have anything else to prove it?

Besides, the large diameter lens does appear to have room to accommodate 4 flanges, 2 of which are invisible.

No. A mere detail which looks similar to another maker's (while the general appearance being very much different) doesn't dictate anything, and it definitely can't dictate that Ricoh Imaging/Pentax would suddenly become incapable of designing their own lenses.
The 70-200 can't be a mere f/4 lens, it has a "large diameter" - I saw it at Photokina, it's similar in size to other 70-200 f/2.8 lenses.

Snappertim, I thing that your information is totally wrong. I have, and had a lot of Sigma lenses, and I've never saw a ''4 flanges bayonet for hood'' on them. I can recommend to go to a store and look at different lenses, and count those flanges again. You will have a surprise.

The bayonet flanges on my Sigma lenses are quite different - just sayin'

SDM only would cripple any Pentax camera effectively. The ability to use ALL K mount lenses is a big part of the selling point for the cameras.

The large-diameter zoom also got little snippets of black tape on the barrel, just above where the switches should be. This suggests that the barrel has been printed with focal length marks which Ricoh wishes to hide for now. Ricoh/Pentax often does this when releasing preview images - little snips of black tape covering controls or labels here and there. I think this lens is further along in development, and we should see it announced at CP+.

I Wonder if the vague delay on these zooms are caused by the difficulties to have a fast, strong, reliable ultrasonic or DC engine.
For the superzoom, the Hood looks quite deep indeed. May be the zoom is longer than expected, ie 200-500 ?

DPReview is saying:
The Pentax K range has clear gaps for the 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3-type lens other manufacturers have found so popular, as well as something like a 70-200mm f/2.8. Interestingly, the high magnification super-telephoto lens model appears to have space for two switches - one would usually be for changing between manual and auto focusing modes, while in some other brands the second switch would be for image stabilization or image stabilization modes.

Err....Zoom Lock/Focus Limiter anyone?

I hope its a 100-600 with apertures faster than Sigma and Tamron. That would show them Pentax does things better.
