Vivitar mystery lens ? (picture added)

I recentl bid on an auction in the USA for a load of Ricoh gear which consisted of a old manual camera with a Rikenon P 50mm, a Promaster 70-210mm PKA, a Promaster 28mm PKA, a set of macro bellows (for the Ricoh), a couple of filters and this Vivitar lens. Got the whole lot for $150 delivered to Spain but apart from one post on google can find nothing about it. It's a Vivitar 100mm 1:1 macro F2/8, full metal body with a built in lens hood.

Please click on photo for larger image but excuse quality as I was preparing to go out when I did them.
Anyone know anything about this lens?

Thanks.

It looks like the Vivitar 105mm f/2.5 macro, but it doesn't say 'series 1' on it... hmm.. But it does look like it's made by Kiron (22xxxx SN)

all I can tell you with any certainty is that it is a Kino (aka Kiron) made lens manufactured in 1987. I could be mistaken so anyone with any absolute info is more than welcome to chime in.

It appears to be the same lens as the Kiron/Lestar A Dine 105mm f/2.8 Macro. If it is the same optically, it is an amazingly good macro lens. Which is said to have the same optical formula as the Series 1 105mm f/2.5.

Heres a picture of the Kiron.

well Mike, since you have the lens in hand, wouldn't it be interesting to run some test shots and show yourself (and us) the results ?

Well it looks like I got myself a decent deal then.
It's 8pm here in Spain now and starting to get dark now but I will try it out tomorrow and see how it performs.

Thanks for the info kbrabble

From what i've read about this lens (i've been hunting it on ebay for awhile) is that it is the earlier version of the 105mm kiron masterpiece you got yourself a hell of a deal. Congrats

Ok, quick shot showing the macro as that was really what I was interested in.
K10D ISO200 F16.
This was hand held so its not as sharp as it could be in large size.

No cropping, just a bit of sharpening in Lightroom.
Click for large and again for manic size.

The pic is of the middle part of a Habiscus flower.

Think I will be keeping this and advertising my Tamron 90mm f2/8 with pka adaptall 2 mount.
