Nothing planned at this time although as the year goes on, I'm sure something will catch my eye. Much is going to depend on my gear holding up. My K5 is close to 4 years old and had some heavy use and I'm hoping for at least another year or so. Past experience is telling me it time to start saving a little for that next camera body. I bought 2 new lenses last year. I always come across some used deals that don't involve much money so I don't consider purchases like that in a thread such as this one. I have so much stuff now, maybe too much.

Nope. Bought a bunch on sale at the end of 2014. Have a K3, 150-500, new monopod, 55-300WR, and odds and ends. If a steal were to present itself, perhaps, but I have no plans to purchase anything significant this year.
  • I need to look through my 6 50s and see which can go.
  • I need to sell my DAL 55-300 now that I have the WR version.
  • I need to decide which I am keeping as a backup - the K-01 or the K-5iis.
  • I ought to sell one of the Q bodies (black or white?).
  • I have several MF lenses that I never use and ought to go to a good home.
  • Do I really need the DA35/2.4 when I have the Sigma 30/1.4 and the FA43?
  • Should I sell the Tamron 18-250 that is in pristine condition when I have the 18-135 that is my default walk around lens?

If we get something that goes to 600 mm in Pentax mount then I may get that (I'm looking at you new zoom), maybe the 1.4tc, and other than that astronomy gear and maybe a new tripod.

I should probably be selling not buying.

However, I am planning on getting the DFA 24-70 f/2.8 when it is released and the 100-400 f/4 if the price is not too ridiculous. I will probably get the FF when it comes out, provided I can make a case for clear improvement in images.

I would have gotten the 16-85 if it had been constant f/4, still might think about it if the reviews come out really positive.

Will (probably) wait till '16 for anything that is revealed this year, and that includes the new 16-85. Got plenty already.

Either the 200mm f2.8, or the 55mm f1.4. I'm leaning towards the 55 because of the 200 purple fringing problems. I hardly use that focal length anyway so it would be $1200 collecting dust in the closet.

This year: a K28/2 and/or an A*85, and when the new model arrives, a K3 .

My wallet is already complaining with my last year's harvest: Q (with 01 and 02), Q7, 03, and 06. For the K mount, I started slow, as I was busy with my "other" collections, and began the purchase only last November, but it was a splurge: K28/3.5, FA31, DA*55, K50/1.2, and the coup de grace: a Russian Helios 44K. (Now, I'm selling my kidney )

I have the 200 and purple fringing is not an issue. Maybe I have a bad copy? In which case the replacement would be my planned purchase.

If anything, I'd be picking up the following:

a) Rokinon/Samyang/Bower 14mm f/2.8
b) Old M42 300mm Pentax lens (they're pretty cheap at the Pasadena show)
c) Plastic Fantastic prime (35mm / 50mm)
d) Pentax 1.4x TC

Last year I acquired more than any other time. 2015 is for consolidation and use...

2014
  • Manfrotto 410 geared head
  • K5IIs
  • DA 60-250
  • HD DA 1.4x AW Teleconverter
Actually I think that the new PC qualifies under 2014 (my 7 year old system just ran out of everything...)
  • i7 3.6GHz, 16GB really fast RAM with 386GB SSD and a SSD cached mirrored set of 3TB storage drives
.... and it's all paid for already.

All I really want to do is to go out and shoot - some really wonderful shots.

I'm looking at a 100mm macro to complement my new K-3.

Heck - I never saw this lens before... This almost makes me think of Sigma's 200-500mm f/2.8

Here's what I would like to buy if I find scorching hot deals. Used would be ideal.
  • Q 08 wide angle lens. This lens is very pricey and relatively new. I have not seen a used one pop up lately. Could be a long wait.
  • 12mm or 14mm UWA prime and 20mm or 24mm WA prime. Or, a Sigma 12-24mm zoom. The distortion on some of these is almost too much to bear though. FF is best so I can use it with my film bodies.
  • D-FA 100mm WR macro to replace my D-FA 50mm macro. I have a FA 50mm f/1.4. The 100mm would offer macro capabilities and a new focal length to play with.
  • A replacement for my FA 28-200mm. When I need reach over WR I go for this lens instead of my DA 18-135mm. Something sharper wide open would be nice. FF is best here too.
  • A replacement for my DA 18-135mm. I really like this lens but I'm open to a single lens replacement that is even sharper. APS or FF works for me.

Otherwise, I'm pretty well stocked up with a handful of primes and a few zooms!

Maybe a 15 or 21 (at least one of those), perhaps something at the 300 end, maybe a SMC 35 f3.5 and maybe a K-3 as there may be some bargains around this year, also possibly a Tamron 90 (or indeed the Vivitar 105).
What I would like is a Revuenon 55mm f1.2, we will see how the finances pan out.
