I will go first there with a K3 and lets see.....thinking......thinking.......Maybe a $39 RICOH XR 28mm f/2.8 lens.......its quite wicked and should get someones attention very quickly......Then will drop the Bomb....lol.
Good luck on your lens choice.....Its not all about pixel peeping.....remember that. Lots of tack azz sharp pics out there , not many photographers that can use any lens like its capable.
The video comparison......useless ! Take it from a guy that has been there done that.

I don't really care of the AF. I have 2 hands

I just wanted to know if that lens is that bad in details as show in the video.
If you want one that's rated low, and fits the bill... there's always the 70-300 'purple monster' Tamron, and a similar lens from Sigma (not sure if its still sold) - they are ~ $170 USD

My experience has been that there's wide sample variation in the 55-300s, so that might have come into play here. I do wish there were more Pentax-compatible choices in this range - for example, the newer-design Tamron 70-300 isn't available for Pentax. Pentax does have a unique offering in the 60-250, although it's in a different class in price, performance, and size/weight, and you have to consider the risks of SDM combined with the pitfalls of Pentax service, should you require it.

That's the ugly truth about today's photography.

Lol, I've owned the NIkons 70-300VR, I do own the newer DA HD 55-300 and as long as one knows the limitations of these lenses - they are both stellar. Damn, i'll even go as far as saying that I've got some shots from the 55-300 that will send the holy 77ltd into the shame-hell - just give it enough light!

In addition to the other comments here about motion blur and user error, if you search Youtube and the web, you will find comparisons of the Nikon 55-300 and the Nikon 70-300 in which Nikon users say the Nikon 55-300 does not appear do as well in AF ad other aspects. Nikon's 55-300 appears more comparable to the Pentax in range, size, price, external focus, etc. as well as the fact that the 70-300 is a full frame lens and the 55-300 is not (though I have used it successfully on film).

According to the comments to the video, the camera used was a D7000, also not comparable to the Kx. The D7000 is a different level of camera, a year later model, 16 vs. 12 mp, and on and on.

This really is a dumb comparison.

I understand, but discussions here generally go beyond the original question.

Taken on a Kx with the 55 300 and it stays sharp throughout it's range

Here's one taken at 300mm wide open (the focus is on his shoulder)

Very nice. I think your hand is steadier than that of the person who made the video.

The DA 55-300 is not half bad at 300mm on film, full frame, either.
