Smc pentax-a 50mm 1.2 help

Would like to have a few question answered if possible. First what hood can be used with this lens either pentax or third party. This lens is able to attach to current pentax dslr bodies with out a adapter? What are your opinions on this lens...thanks in advance

Yes, you do not need an adapter to use this lens on any Pentax K-mount camera. Indeed, if you switch the aperture ring to the "A" setting, the lens will work with the automatic exposure settings of the camera as well.

I'm not sure if Pentax ever made a hood specific for this lens (they probably did). Even if such a hood exists, it may be hard to find one. You can get a screw on rubber hood for it which should work fairly well.

Filter size of the lens is what you need to determine the screw on hood size. I think that is 52mm on that lens. The rubber one mentioned above is simple and adjustable and cheap. I suspect an original hood would be very expensive, though I'm not sure there ever was one. I don't recall ever seeing one with that lens.

The Lens Database says it did not come with a hood (except the silver version - matching silver hood) but these hoods fit: PH-S52 (50mm) and PH-R52. If you want an OEM hood Good luck finding one. These are listed in the Accessory Database.

BTW, as for opinions on performance, the database will also give you user reviews. I have the older K50 f1.2 and it's stellar IMO. I believe the A is the same optical formula and the reviews for both are quite good. At 1.2 the depth of field is very thin and photos can look soft wide open as a result Stopped down a little and it gets very sharp.

Nikon HN-3 Lens Hood 510 B&H Photo Video

You can get it cheaper used, or as a knock-off.

It should also work with an A 24/2.8, at least on APS-C.

It's one of Pentax's best lenses.

To focus at f/1.2 or thereabouts,
I strongly recommend using live view,
and focus peaking if you have it.

Asahi Opt. did make rectangular hoods for 'Standard' lenses (50mm,55mm) and 'Wide' angle lenses (28mm,35mm), with 52mm filter threads.

On eBay I found & bought a rectangular PH-S52 'Standard' hood for $35.00 shipped:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/331469547321?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Here at PF, I found & bought a rectangular PH-W52 'Wide' hood for $28.20

So, not too hard to find, just need to be vigilent.
