As mentioned in a previous post & thread there seems to be something up with the 150-450 front and back out of focus areas.
Do any optical engineers have an insight to what this is ?

If we haven't learned, manufacturers suck at sample photos. For example, the D800, the DA 560, etc...
It comes to my surprise though! Actually Pentax for some products, they redirect you to "USER PHOTOS". Where you can see excellent examples of what the lens can do. However, I am not sure why they are doing such thing either.. The user "album" often comes in compressed and much smaller image size, so there will be no 100% image to justify the actual image quality from the lens either.

To digital world, the website presentations, none of those camera manufacture ever put much efforts on them. At least that's how I feel about them.

For example photos.. Best one I've seen was from Panasonic. The sample photos were soo good! They made me purchased LX-5... that's why!

LOOK what Panasonic did? They just put you to some excellent pro photographers' work.. and they are super awesome!

Maybe some non-alignment of some elements inside of the lens, or, maybe even the flange are not squared. It seems to be very pronounced on the right side, and almost none on the left.

PS. Looking again, I think is a flange problem. On the lens, or on the camera. It happened to me once, with a camera with a not squared flange. It took me three night of work photographing the sky, and moving the flange screws very little to bring it to the proper position.

I have to agree that even through the 2 photos from the 70-200 have at least some interresting subject, the 2 from 150-250 are really so-so and overall the image are not even really sharp.

When they release the K3, they produced much better photos samples than that.

If theses lenses can't do better, really nobody should spend 2000$+ for them.

Bisogna dire però che la foto è stata scattata a 1/25 di secondo. Quindi sarebbe bastato un pò di vento per far muovere il fiore. Questa fatta ad 1/15 di secondo, ma i palazzi sono un pò più difficile farli muovere!!

It is indeed unfair on such a telephoto to judge it at 1/15 and 1/25 sec.
Not the shutter speeds I'd use for distant scenes, even with a sturdy tripod.

And the typically grey light of Hobart provides low contrast here too.

great samples they chose for the 150-450
so lets summarize:

boring subjects
low contrast scene
too slow shutter speeds
something wrong with the camera/lens combo. be it flange or decentering
perhaps even shot through a window.

at least the aperture seems to be okay. nevertheless im still wondering why they chose such poor samples?

I felt compelled to translate our pal's comments for the international audience:

"I feel its important to state that the photo is taken at 1/25 shutter speed, therefore there needed only to be a little bit of wind for the flowers to move. (here's referring to the first pic of the flowers). (The second is) shot at 1/15 shutter speed but the buildings wouldn't be prone to movement......

Agreed ... no way this should be posted as a "sample" of what this lens should be capable of.
Let's hope some real user will prove this as a poor representation of a seemingly new/great lens and post something done properly?

Just for reference, (as originally posted in the 'News and Rumours' area) there is an Ipad app/web presentation available for browsing that tells the story of both these lenses, with sample images, interviews with the lens designers etc [in Japanese].

I have been considering the Tamron myself. It seems to have very good IQ if you get a good one. Don't know if the DA/F 70-200 would be worth it if you already have a 60-250mm. Funny that the announcement of these two lenses has seemed to driven down the used prices of the DA* 60-250 and the DA*300mm without the lenses being available yet.
