Limited limiteds?

Hi all,
I noticed the other day that after KEH had its special 15% off Pentax sale, there are now zero FA Limited lenses in any color available. I probably don't have to tell you how big KEH is.

A sign of things to come or is this just due to the sale?

Looks like KEH will have to pay more for the Limiteds if they want to have them in stock. Who would sell to them at their current offer? $400 for a 31, $229 for the 43, $430 for the 77.

They never seem to have many of the FA limiteds. Most often the one they have is the FA 43 limited. They do not have a lot of the DA Limiteds either but they are easier to find than the FA limiteds whenever I have checked the KEH website. I did buy a DA 21 Limited from them and it was in perfect condition.

Sites like KEH are great if you're just looking to unload items with minimal hassle or sell things that just won't move despite your other attempts. If you want the best money possible, you're not going to get it there. The Limiteds are easy to sell, so there's no incentive to sell to KEH unless they up their payout.

Their inventory floats according to supply and demand and is fairly unpredictable. It is not unusual for them to not have a particular lens in stock.* In case you were wondering, I think it is a little premature to pin this on the Pentax FF announcement. When the camera actually launches, you can expect that prices for used FF K-mount lenses will skyrocket in much the same way they did after the launch of the K10D. For example, I (regrettably) paid $100 for my Pentax-A 50/1.7 in 2007 and felt happy at the time to even find one available to buy.

Steve

* A good example might be fast 50s. Today, KEH had no FA fast 50mm lenses in stock.

In my experience KEH bids roughly 50% of the eventual listing price for a Pentax lens. I have no observation for other brands.

In my experience KEH bids roughly 50% of the eventual listing price for a Pentax lens. That leaves quite a lot of room for a seller who is willing to do some work listing the lens. I've found 25% below KEH seems to be a clearing price; higher to a lot higher if the seller includes photos and text, OEM caps, packaging materials and has a Forum feedback score.

I have no observation for other brands.

Offering 50% is about standard for companies that buy and resell pretty much anything.

I plan to sell my 15Ltd, but I sure won't be selling it to KEH for 50% of the value! Someone here will want it.

50% is the maximum, most of the time. For common lenses it is much less i.e. $18 for an A 50/1.7 with caps. Their asking price is $94...

But they will pay $141 for an FA 50/1.7 with caps. I don't think they are going to get $282 for one.
