M85 f2

worth buying considering I have a DA70 and an m100 2.8?
There is one for sale for a good price now.

the m series appeal to me as they have a nice focus ring & I'm thinking FF oriented...
& i want to get more involved in portraits. 100mm is not far off the m85/f2. So i wonder if it's worth it.
It does seem to appeal some users.

and the DA70 is nice, but yet to see it working on FF..

Focal length is extremely important to me. 70 and 100are not equal to 85, so I would say you need the 85mm. Go for it!

I have the 70mm, the 85mm and the 100mm and I rarely use the 100mm. If they're too close then get the 85 and then sell the 100.

well, I just bought it. it comes with the hood and seems a very nice copy at decent price.
Like you say, i can always sell the one i don't use..

Otherwise: i 'd keep wondering what is is like.
the M100 is so sharp. I read the 85 is a little soft fully open. I think i'd like that...

ps: i'm so easy to convince ;-)

All it takes is one good photo with a certain lens to convince me that I need said lens. I don't mean a good photo that everyone likes, but a photo that catches my eye in a strange way. Something about it that makes me say "I have to add that lens to my collection!".

M85/2 is a nice lens and sharp, certainly F2.8 and up. It can be a bit of a blue CA beast at F2. Not tried it but F2 in softly lit situations might not be so CA affected. In brighter light F2.8 tames the blue CA quite a bit (enough for Lightroom or similar to deal with) and by F4 is well under control. In my view it has nice natural colours and avoids being over-contrasty - good things for a portrait lens I think.

Congrats!

Its a nice lens.
Super portable with the small size.
Good o/p.
Just watch the situations that give strong CA and veiling flare.

Taken with M85/2

It's a great wee lens.

I must admit I traded mine when I got her bigger cousin... my “Sweetheart” (SMC Pentax-A* 85mm F1.4).

Excellent! I'm playing a similar game on the long end, just picked up the M150 to go with my M100/2.8 and A50 macro. I've decided to go Roman with my primes with L, C & CL to accompany my samsung LVI XX and XXX
