Need Suggestion on Quality Lens to Fill In my Lineup

Here is my current setup:

K5II
Rokinon 16mm f/2.0
________________
Tamron SP AF70-200mm Di LD(IF) Macro

Currently what is filling that blank is my manual focus 50mm f/1.7 Sears lens. I love the lens, but the times I would use a normal lens I need AF as I don't always have the luxury of time.

So, I need suggestions on how to fill in the void in my lens lineup. What I am considering:

A 17-50mm f/2.8 lens.
....something?
A good AF prime? (for a walkaround lens I worry about a prime though....)

I need something that is a good overall value as budgetary concerns are real. I would say, no more than 750 dollars, preferably closer to 500 or below as I am trying to save up for other life events.

Would love any advice I could get on this subject.

The Tamron 17-50 is a good one, and can be had super cheap right now too. I'd go for it.

With your budget you could get a 21 (used) PLUS the 35 & 50 plastic DA lenses. Or a 21 (used) plus the 40 Limited (used).
You could also pick up a 16-50 f/2.8 Pentax, or the new 16-85.

You didn't mention what you want to cover that gap. Some nice alternatives depending on your desires:

PRIMES
Small: DA21, DA40 or FA43
Fast: FA31
Versatile: DA35Macro

ZOOMS
Compact: DA20-40
Versatile, fast aperture not important: DA16-85
Versatile, fast aperture: Tamron 17-50 or DA16-50

COMPACT CAMERA
(advantages are: camera that fits in pants pocket, not having to swap lenses to go from tele to normal range, backup body/lens.)
Ricoh GR or Sony RX100 MkIII

Now it's back to you...

FA 43mm Limited or the DA* 55mm. Or even the DA 35mm Limited Macro.

If you like the sears 50mm f/1.7 seems like the FA 50mm f/1.7 would be the logical replacement.

For my photography, my 16 and my 70-200 will handle most things, but sometimes I want a lens I can carry with me in case I see a picture while I am out and about.

I think a zoom will be the best option because I might need a wide angle, might need a normal, don't know. On the other hand that 43 ltd sounds awesome. It's tough to say

My usual walk-around kit consists of two primes; FA31Ltd and DFA100WR. And as you currently use a 50mm prime, I don't think you have to worry too much.

On a budget, DA35/2.4 (because it nicely fits between 16 and 70) and/or DA50/1.8 (because you're used to the focal length).
Not so budget: save up more and get the FA31Ltd

Sigma 17-50 f2.8. Excellent quality, but rather large and heavy. I bought myself one for Christmas and I like it a lot.

How much is the 18-35 f1.8? Would that do? Or 20-40?

I also have the Pentax 18-135, and I like the fact that it is wr, it has even been under a waterfall with no problems BUT I am not wholly satisfied with the IQ.

Maybe the 16-85 would fit the bill, it is also wr, but a wider maximum aperture would be nice.

You need something in the 30-50mm range. I suggest a DA35/2.4 and an used FA43 (or FA50) that together fit in your budget.
My FA43 rarely leaves my K30 body.

An average between your two lenses

16mm + 70mm = 86mm
86 / 2 = 43mm

It looks like you have a pretty big gap there. I'd fill it with a quality standard zoom (i.e. the Pentax 16-85mm, Sigma/Tamron 17-50mm, Sigma 17-70mm), then supplement that with a nice everyday prime (plenty of great suggestions above).
