60-250

So lately as I have been acquiring better glass I assumed the LBA would have subsided a bit but it is the opposite and has got me worse than ever. The latest on my radar is a 60-250. I just can't get over it. I already have a 50-135 and a Sigma 100-300 F4 so the thought of adding a 60-250 is almost absurd but this is the nature of the beast.

I love the Sigma but I find its just a huge lens that I opt to not take a lot of times just due to its size. I keep telling myself that the 60-250 is smaller and I wouldn't mind carrying it around as much as the mammoth Siggy. I really would like to put them head to head in a death dual of auto focus and resolution as well as I haven't seen too many comparisons.

Is it too late for someone to talk some sense into me or should I just throw in the towel and buy it? What to do, what to do.

Can anyone point me to some shots with the 60-250 with and without the Pentax TC? I would love to see how usable it would be.

I have the 50-135 and 60-250 as well as the Pentax HD TC. The lens is big. It is grows longer than expected since it is not interval zoom. The 60-250 makes excellent sharp images with and without the TC. So does the 50-135. I don't have the 100-300 you have so I can't compare.

I am using the 60-250 this month in the single in challenge. I may get a chance to use it with the TC this weekend.

Oh, come on man! You know you want it, just get it, that's what credit cards are for.

LBA is a harsh mistress.

Oh, and I want one too by the way.

the only way to know for sure is to use it yourself for a while. I had the 50-135 + 300, thought the 60-250 would "make more sense" so i tried it. The IQ was great, but i'm now back to using the 50-135 + 300. never tried it with the tc.

Same opinion, 50-135 + 300 is a good combination. With 60-250 , if for tele we tend to use 250, if for portraits 50-135 is faster. And the 300 f/4 is a bit longer and has good iq.

The 60-250 is my favourite lens.

It is large but quite small for what it offers.

I'd encourage you to get it but I'm not in control of your budget. You can always sell the 100-300 if you do prefer the Pentax. And it's currently at an all-time low

You LBA hasn't fully kicked in. Wait till you own the 50-135, 55-300, 60-250, DA 300, HD TC, 3 50mm's, FA100, K135, FA77, Pentacon 135, all to cover the 50-300 range. My wife told me 2 days ago I have a disease. Couldn't argue.

50-135 (y), 55-300 (y, SMC), 60-250 (y), DA 300 (n), HD TC (y), 3 50mm's (y), FA100 (F, not FA) , K135 (N, but I have the f/2.5 Takumar Bayonet), FA77 (n, but I have the A* 85 f/1.4), Pentacon 135 (n, but see below)

Add to that, TWO DA 18-55's (just inside the 50mm mark), a DA 50-200, an F 35-135, and a DA 18-135. Oh no, I have the disease too!

EDIT: Forgot the not fully functional FA 80-320; optically working but no A or AF function.

And to top it off my Dad has the DA* 200 f/2.8, the DA 70 Limited, the FA 28-200, another DA 18-55... oy!

50-300 is a wide range and popular.

Here's my Single In March photos. Not much to show so far but all are taken with the DA* 60-250 f/4
EXIF is stripped by my PP tools so I upload an original from time to time typically with similar conditions so you can get some idea of what exposures were.

My 60-250 is possibly the best surprise I have ever had buying a lens. It is so much better than I expected. It certainly reduced my use of the 50-135 which has become just a people photo lens. You could always save up for the 150-450.

Who in their right mind would use a 50-135 + 300 combo anyway? Uhhh......me too. Except my 300 is the F*300. Waaaaay cooler than the DA*300 cause its white

But now I'm lusting after a DA*200 because I think I need it.

Well you guys are no help lol. I was hoping someone would tell me to give my head a shake. I agree that the most used range on a long tele is its max so in theory a DA*300 would make more sense but that theory only holds water if you don't mind carrying a bunch more lenses to take care of the rest of the range.

I understand that the 60-250 is quite long when fully zoomed in....come to think of it I haven't seen any spec of exactly how long it gets when it's extended all the way. Would it be longer than my 100-300 I wonder? The problem is, the Siggy is always that long.

The lens that I have had the most "wow" factor with is my 50-135. The 16-50 is very nice but there is something magical about the 50-135 that I just love. I was hoping te 60-250 would be the same but in a larger fashion.
