DA18-135 in the rain - first a very wet Winter's day

Second a sudden shower on a "Summer" day

Tamron 17-50 in the November mist

I use both these lenses regularly, the 18-135 is fine as long as your subject is not too close th the edge of the frame. I normally crop down to 7x5 format, so this doesn't tend to be a great problem for me

You must be shooting 70-135mm, at 24mm the 18-135 edges are among the best.

But for the most part, use the 17-50 when you can, use the 18-135 the rest of the time, if you have both.

Actually I find I do use the longer end of the 18-135 or down at 18-20, and as you suggest the two lens combo of 17-50 and 18-135 is a good one. In fact my normal kit is
Tamron 17-50, Sigma 50-150 f2.8, DA 50 F1.8 with the 18-135 on the camera. The f2.8 zooms give me the option of shooting at f4 with good IQ, the 18-135 covers all bases and is there for the spells of bad weather (frequent in the UK) Given the choise, I would lose the Tamron (although I have a rather battered DA 16-45 f4 which I used before I got the Tamron.

It's heresy, I know, but I can't remember the last time I saw a photo on this forum taken in the rain. :-)

I don't doubt that some are taken but they're obviously not keepers.
I would say that I take a lot more photos in the snow than in the rain. Rain is tough, because you really do have to protect your front element. If you get water spots on it, then your photos are going to suffer.

To me, the biggest thing is piece of mind. I went hiking on the Volcan Izalco in El Salvador. As clear a day as could be and once we got to the top, the clouds opened up and dumped water on us. I immediately put away my K100D in a (non-waterproof) back pack and took no more photos for the rest of the hike. Let it dry out for a day. The camera would take photos after that, but the back LCD never worked again.

You just can't tell what weather might strike and my experience with electronics and water (sometimes even light amounts of water) has been pretty negative.

Snow.

Rain.

Snow.

This was shot in relatively heavy rain.
