Pentax 16-50 f2.8- anyone have to make an AF fine adjustment?

I just got a new 16-50 2.8 and have had to make a +7 AF fine adjustment according to the LensAlign system. A previous 16-50 that I returned with squeaky sound had 0 fine adjustment? What gives? I have a K-3. What camera and what adjustment if any have you made on your 16-50?

It's is always individual for every unique lens and camera combo so what other entered isn't really of any use to you.

If you can achieve accurate AF through-out the entire focal range, and you are happy with the optical performance, I will suggest keep it even if you have to push AF adjust to +10. The most headache thing is different FL need different AF adjustments.

If it's within adjustment range, I see no reason why.

Nearly every large aperture =<2.8 lens I own has needed very minor adjustments through to some pretty major (+9/10).
And you get a different camera and it will likely need a different adjustment again. If the fine adjustment has the ability to do so then as other have said, it is not really worth the hassel.

The squeaky sound you refer to has been one sign there likely going to be issues with the SDM, so this kind of thing is something I would return for as you have done, but the AF adjustment is more about the tollerances (both Camera & Lens) from factory being not 100% perfect. No brand is perfect (AFAIK).

You will be doing a lot of sending back lenses if you want zero adjustment with each one, out of ten lenses, three are zero!

I don't have an adjustment on my lens, but I wouldn't send the lens back just because you have to make an adjustment. Just make sure there is no decentering (all borders are equally sharp). Otherwise it sounds fine to me.

What is the best way to test for sharpness on the edges? Just focus on the target on the LensAlign and then move camera to the side and then look at the sharpness on the target?
