limited tilt shift lens

Pentax should make either a DA 18mm limited tilt shift lens or a D-FA 28mm limited tilt shift lens. Who's with me?

Here you go: SMC Pentax 28mm F3.5 Shift Reviews - K Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

But it is only shift of course. I would be interested in a 28mm tilt / shift for the FF camera. But I doubt it will ever happen, not enough potential sales.

We do have this available: http://www.adorama.com/RK24TSPX.html? and that might be the closest we get.

Limited would imply small - I would love to see a small, rugged, weather sealed tilt/shift! But I would think that would be very hard to make... Of course being under $1500 would be important too....

I have been playing around with the Rokinon 24mm and so far I'm liking it. It handles flair poorly, but it seems decently sharp stopped down (haven't tested it at wider than f8 yet) and the color seems to be ok. Just getting my feet wet before I decide if this type of lens is really needed for architecture and landscape shots...

It is a niche market and I see no reason to make such a lens a "limited". Price alone would signify exclusivity and expensive it would be regardless of format!

Why is tilt shift needed these days when you can replicate the miniature town effect and straighten buildings all by manipulating the file in software?

(Honest question, not a knock on OP.)

You have the Rokinon 24mm? Sounds like we should have another Portland area meetup!

That is a pretty good price. That is as long as I would go on APS-C, though it would be great on the upcoming FF.

That involves stretching pixels. The tilt is the fun part as you change the plane of focus.

Because faux miniature is not the primary usage and correction in software is lossy and/or prone to artifact and because having tilt-shift optics allows for true change in perspective.*

Steve

* Perspective is driven by the position of the entrance pupil relative to the subject. The lens movements allows modification of the projection to provide control of the plane of focus and a controlled crop of the image circle to fit the lens orientation. A tilt-shift lens allows good control, though a view camera with full movements of both lens and capture media is better.

I've been doing that in post and honestly its getting annoying and time consuming and I finding it to not look so natural which is why I've been interested in getting a tilt shift

It can keep yourself out of reflections... which are much more difficult to lose in PP.
