It's worth getting one of those folding diffusers which slip over the lens for use with the built in flash. Failing that a piece of tissue held over the flash also works almost as well.

I had such a diffuser on my Minolta PX280 for close-up use. The best flash unit for macro is a ringlight (Minolta 80 PX) where you can use 2 or 4 lamps at will. I never acquired any more than an AF360 FGZ Pentax flash which I used with my 645N though.

I did some "open shutter" in the dark pictures at night with my Minolta equipment, composing my still-lifes, shutting ambient light and using multiple flash bursts on the right, left, above and even some backlighting. Results were always a revelation after film processing but it was always exciting.

Best Regards

A couple more with the K- 1 and Sigma 180 Macro. I also use the AF540FGZII flash with a Gary Fong Diffuser attached to it.

I'd say you're getting the feel for that 60 Macro, Ed - good stuff!

Thank you kindly!

I love pushing macro lenses to outdoor infinity applications = this one seems quite nice for overall use. Not sure if I've tried some portraits, but the weekend will come and it will be tested, definitely a keeper.

Thanks, Ed. Yes, the place is a 20 min drive from my home. The rains in December greened things up nicely. It's usually very dry and brown, and probably will be again soon. It's between Camarillo and Thousand Oaks, Calif. The winter light brings out the beauty of the area, too
