On ASPC, 135mm I find to be a bit narrow for a lot of uses but too short for wildlife. I used my Tamron 90 macro alot since that mimics 135 on FF. I often thought about the Samyang 85mm and almost got one for the K10D. I ended up with the Tamron for the same price.

I wish I could do one of the monthly singles. Working 10-12 hours a day tends to eat up my time.

paulh, seems like you are having a bad year with the flooding thing...But from a photo point of view I guess it makes interesting photo opportunities.

That's what I keep telling myself . Since I live right by the lake, I see the flooding and damage every day - but you'd never know it happened if you travelled just a couple miles away. It's just that the lake is already over capacity, so any rainfall we get just prolongs the condition. Funny thing is, up until last Spring, the lake was usually 15-20 feet low during the many previous years of drought.

I've been super impressed with Pentax-M 135 f/2.8. Like... jaw dropping impressed. I'm still getting used to manual focus, and sometimes miss shots as a result, but my good ones turn out pretty darn good.

BTW, I've just come across this thread, with much the same project in mind. Comparing the legacy lenses.

The sharpness on this picture killed me when I threw it on my monitor.

Having spent some time with Zeiss glass, which for some reason tends to the cold side of the temperature spectrum, I was really happy with the way colors were coming out of this lens without needing fiddlilng.

My friends are looking to maybe go through my collection of lenses for their own cameras, and really like to see bokeh. So I was just messing around with shots, trying to get some defined flowers in the near background.

I was curious how the bokeh would work with a more urban background. Still impressed.

I can't believe this lens costs as little as it does... I'm flabbergasted by its abilities.

Great pictures!

But I'm a bit confused... there's a SMC Pentax-M 135mm f/3.5, and a SMC Pentax-A 135mm f/2.8. There's also the SMC Pentax 135mm f/2.5 (a.k.a. Pentax-K). There's no Pentax-M 135mm f/2.8. Which one do you have?

Quite right. It's the A.

Yeah I had the A version back when when I shot film. I sold when I gave up portrait work. It was an excellent lens and extremely sharp. Too sharp actually, I had to use diffusion filters for some portrait shots.

Both are fine lenses. If it were me I would go for the FA 28. I find the older Sigma's to be somewhat flat while the FA primes tend to pop more and have better contrast. I believe the FA 28 is quite smaller and more compact too.

I think it is way past due for me to fire up the old K10D and put my old Taks back to use. i have not used them in a very long time.

Is there an FA 28mm f/2?

I have passed up a few Vivitar/Komine 28mm f/2 lenses, I'll probably end up with one sooner or later when things come together right.

thank you - I've seen decent prices on both in the last week and like the shots taken by both..... but I know you're right about the FA's color rendition vs the Sigma's....
